KLR is one of the fastest growing accounting firms in New England. We are seeking a State and Local Tax (SALT) Director to join our firm, based in any of our New England offices on a flexible hybrid basis. Fully remote arrangements are available for the ideal candidate.

Job Responsibilities
- Clear understanding of State and Local tax matters in the areas of sales tax, excise taxes, income taxes, property taxes, nexus, apportioning, sourcing of income, etc.
- Interact with clients on state and local tax compliance and strategies, identify client issues and conflicts; proactively communicate solutions and options to clients
- Research skills and ability to apply the tax code and regulations to specific fact patterns
- Serve as client’s trusted advisor, demonstrate knowledge of industry trends, identify client issues and conflicts; proactively communicate solutions and options to clients and team
- Manage staff on engagement deliverables such as reports, strategies, questions, examinations, etc. to ensure on time delivery and on budget
- Understand the client’s organization, procedures, and internal policies
- Understanding your clients’ goals and needs while serving clients directly
- Owning client relationships and work
- Strategizing with colleagues and staff regarding tax planning and problem solving
- Provide clients with recommendations and guidance on how to achieve their goals and assist in identifying opportunities for expanded engagements
- Working closely with staff, and assisting senior management in mentoring, coaching, training, supervising, and evaluating staff
- Foster a team environment; demonstrate support of management and firm decisions while building a positive culture
- Participate in practice development activities that lead to the generation of new business and cross-service opportunities

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation
- 9+ years of technical tax experience in public accounting, 3+ in a managerial role
- CPA, EA or JD certification is required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Ability to manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously
- Ability to translate complex data from a range of sources into client-ready insights and deliverables
- Developed public accounting management experience

We are looking for a candidate to work full time. Normal hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm with increased hours during our peak seasons: February through mid-April and mid-August through mid-October. These periods require increasing normal weekly hours, which include weekends.
