A law firm in Melville, NY is seeking a Workers' Compensation Associate Attorney with strong analytical, writing, research, and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and analysis on workers' compensation laws and regulations.
- Prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs related to workers' compensation claims.
- Represent clients at hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings before the New York State Workers' Compensation Board.
- Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients and advise them on their rights and options under workers' compensation laws.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys and legal staff on case strategy and client matters.
- Maintain communication with clients to provide updates and counsel throughout the claims process.
- Analyze and evaluate workers' compensation claims to determine legal merit and strategy.
- Draft and review legal documents, correspondence, and settlement agreements.
- Attend hearings, mediations, and negotiations to advocate for clients' interests.
- Conduct discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories and document requests.
- Assist in preparing cases for trial, including witness preparation and trial strategy.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admitted to practice law in the state of New York, with a focus or interest in workers' compensation law.
- 1-3 years of experience in workers' compensation or related field preferred; recent graduates with relevant coursework or internships will be considered.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Education and Certifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
