As a Director of Software Engineering (
UI/UX) at Mon Ami, you will play a pivotal role in the innovation, standardization, and performance of our UX across the enterprise. You will partner closely with our VP of UX to lead the development of robust, scalable UX components and set the foundation for design system adoption across teams. While you’re not a designer, you have an eye for design and bring a passion for improving user experience at scale.
You will drive collaboration across teams, ensuring the consistent use of UX components while also leading efforts to evaluate and implement new technologies and best practices in the Ruby on Rails ecosystem. As a leader, you’ll coach and mentor engineers, providing tools and guidance to build UI that we are all proud of.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the VP of UX to drive the innovation, standardization, and performance of UX across Mon Ami’s applications.
- Lead the development of reusable UX components using GitHub View Components, Stimulus, Turbo/Hotwire, and Bootstrap.
- Ensure the UX components you develop are scalable and maintainable for other developers to use across our enterprise.
- Stay abreast of new developments in the Ruby on Rails ecosystem, and introduce relevant tools and techniques to the team.
- Establish best practices for performance and accessibility in UX.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive UX design and development processes.
- Mentor junior and senior engineers alike, fostering a culture of learning and open feedback.
YOU
- Have 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on UI/UX in the Ruby on Rails ecosystem.
- Are deeply familiar with tools such as Stimulus, Turbo/Hotwire, Bootstrap, RSpec, GitHub View Components, and have hands-on experience integrating them into a Rails application.
- Have a strong understanding of modern UI performance optimization techniques.
- Have a deep understanding of the requirements for accessible UIs (WCAG)
- Enjoy staying on top of new developments and best practices in both UI/UX and Ruby on Rails.
- Are deeply familiar with front-end performance optimizations needed to improve TTI, LCP, CLS
- While not necessarily a designer but have a good eye for UX/UI design and accessibility.
- Thrive in an environment where teaching, mentorship, and team collaboration are key.
- Love working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

- This position can be located anywhere, but our current staff are in California and Europe, so there is a requirement to overlap 3-4 daily hours with California and optimally other hours with Europe or California. Some benefits are available only to US residents.
