Direct Counsel has partnered with a premier, nationally recognized law firm in their search for a midlevel regulatory insurance associate to join their DC office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in regulatory and corporate law, with specific experience in forming companies, contracting for reinsurance agreements, drafting and negotiating program agreements, broker agreements, forming captive insurance companies, and advising on regulatory compliance matters.
Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on regulatory and corporate insurance matters, including the formation of companies and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate reinsurance agreements, program agreements, and broker agreements.
- Assist in the formation of captive insurance companies and provide ongoing regulatory compliance advice.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on complex regulatory issues and provide clear, concise guidance to clients.
- Represent clients in interactions with state insurance departments and other regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas to provide comprehensive legal solutions to clients.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in Washington, DC, or eligibility to waive in.
- 3-5 years of experience in regulatory and corporate law, preferably at a law firm.
- Strong understanding of state and federal insurance regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience in forming companies, contracting for reinsurance agreements, and drafting and negotiating program and broker agreements.
- Proven track record of advising on the formation of captive insurance companies and regulatory compliance matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
The expected annual salary for this position ranges from $245,000-$315,000. The salary offered will be determined by a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, experience level, education/training, and relevant skills. Associates also participate in a performance and hours-based bonus program.
