ABOUT US:
Volta Labs is an applications company that is revolutionizing the future of genomics. We are a Boston based, venture-backed biotech startup that makes extracting vital information from biological samples as simple as pressing a button, through our flagship product Callisto. Our product speeds up processing time for scientists and increases accessibility to important genetic information for patients. Sitting at the intersection of science and engineering, we invite you to join us on our journey to shape the future of genomics, where insatiable curiosity is encouraged and every Voltarian makes an impact.
THE TEAM:
You'll join a team of innovative thinkers who love to experiment, collaborate, and win together. We are passionate about pushing the boundaries of automation, biology, computing, robotics, design, and user experience to benefit our customers and the world.
The Genomics Applications Lead- Automation will report into the Head of Applications Development, taking on management of a current team of 5 that has plans to grow this year. You’ll own the planning and execution of the End To End product development lifecycle (early research and experimentation, feasibility, design and development, verification and validation) across different applications currently identified in our product portfolio.
This is a critical role that combines elements of hands-on building in the now while planning for the future; perfect for someone who loves both managing a team and optimizing systems to be faster and smarter over time.
DAY TO DAY AND YEAR 1:
- Manage and supervise the work of the Application Development team: scoping projects, delegating tasks, setting and managing deliverable deadlines, and providing hands-on support when necessary.
- Continuous mentorship across the team; finding small and large opportunities for team operations.
- Partner with Leadership, supporting strategy meetings, defining roadmap, shaping the product outcomes and overall culture at Volta.
- Drive and participate in hiring processes: With plans to steadily grow over the next 2-3 years, you will regularly assess and define team needs, and collaborate with Finance & People Operations to scale the team effectively and proactively.
Within 3 months you’ll: Complete onboarding, gain a full understanding of our products and market opportunity, have identified the initial gaps and work towards streamlining the current product development process.
By 6 months you’ll: Own team development & hiring, define plan for delivering on the application roadmap for next calendar year, and be actively participating in post-commercialization restrategizing & customer launches. Start identifying data silos to remove.
At 12+ months you’ll: Fully own one or more product portfolios, support further team growth across hiring and promotions, and be actively sustaining launched products with customers and supporting new product launches.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Launched or heavily participated in at least one end-to-end product development cycle (ideation through post-launch activities) in life sciences tools space (sequencing, diagnostics, genomics, reagents, etc).
- Technical project/program management experience of a team 5+ in size, including delegation, quality management, retrospectives, and all other PM activities.
- Proven proficiency in converting biochemistry biology based workflows (next generation sequencing methods is a plus) from manual to automated process on liquid handling systems.
- Success leading technical interactions with Key Opinion Leaders and/or early adopters of a commercialized technology or product.
