DutiesThis role coordinates emergency response and port security planning efforts by providing policy guidance and technical expertise to ensure all field units are prepared for any contingency involving natural disasters, oil or chemical discharges, or terrorist incidents.
Typical work assignments include:
- Coordinating Maritime Security planning efforts, programs, and projects.
- Serving as a technical expert, exercising independence and political judgment in developing and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders in the government (federal, state, and local) and private industry.
- Managing a security/law enforcement program throughout a major agency organizational component of the Coast Guard.
- Developing planning and exercises guidance for the First District's Maritime Security Program and advising senior leaders on applicable security standards.
- Reviewing and developing new or proposed District-wide security policies, procedures, and guidelines for response to any contingency including natural disaster, oil/chemical discharge, or terrorist threat or incident.
RequirementsConditions of Employment:- U.S. Citizenship is required.

QualificationsQualifications for GS-13: You must have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Developing and interpreting broad security policies and regulations; investigating and analyzing a variety of unusual maritime security problems, questions, or conditions; formulating projects or studies to alter existing security systems substantially.
