About the Role of CEO
The President & CEO, under the general policy guidance and broad administrative direction of the Board of Directors, has the primary leadership authority and responsibility to ensure the smooth functioning and operation of Silver Maples.
The primary role of the CEO is to ensure the ongoing success of Silver Maples, maintaining its excellent culture, staff, and general operations. This is accomplished through ensuring that the strategic plan of Silver Maples is appropriately implemented; the finances of the organization are appropriately managed at all times in a professional manner; Silver Maples’ team members are regarded as a vitally important resource to be treated with respect and dignity and whose competence and value are enhanced; residents are engaged and appreciate the lifestyle and services provided, and that the President & CEO represents Silver Maples favorably in the Chelsea community.
The President & CEO reports to and is directly accountable to the Board of Directors, serving as the liaison between the Board and the leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for developing and implementing the Operating and Capital Expenditure Budget for the community, maintaining full responsibility for efficient operations and compliance.
- Maintain and safeguard the property of the community in accordance with accepted policies and practices.
- Manage executive staff and through them, ensure effective oversight regarding employment, performance and job-related conduct of all team members in accordance with administrative policies.
- In collaboration with the management team, annually formulate challenging and attainable goals supporting the strategic plan of the organization and regularly monitor the progress of such goals.
- Represent and advocate the concerns and interests of the management team, team members, and residents, while maintaining a long-range business perspective.
- Maintain professional competencies and relationships in management and resident care, ensuring compliance with licensure and regulatory responsibilities.
- Execute the specifics of the strategic plan, keeping the board apprised of progress and challenges.
- In collaboration with the Board, staff, and residents, regularly update the strategic plan.
- Monitor and maintain the excellent culture of resident and staff satisfaction and engagement.
Challenges and Opportunities Include:
- Retaining and attracting high quality staff given the current labor market constraints
- Maintaining the high standard and quality of the residences, facilities and landscaping and other costs in an inflationary environment
- Leveraging the Chelsea region, which has become an attractive community for senior citizens
- Managing the waitlist that is expected to continue to grow
- Maintaining the standing that SMOC has in the community
- Leveraging an engaged and intelligent resident community
- Exploring other streams of revenue, including “gap services” for independent living residents that would like more support
