JOB SUMMARYThe Assistant Director for Recognition Programs plays a pivotal role in developing, nurturing, and maintaining relationships that foster lifelong connections with all recipients-both alumni and current students-of Northeastern University's highest recognitions, including Academic Honors and Scholarship, Huntington 100, Lux. Veritas. Virtus. Society, and the Compass Awards program.
Represents the voice of honorees in engagement activities and initiatives, including participating in strategic planning, relationship building, event coordination, and continuously improving engagement strategies for this constituent group. The role involves documenting and analyzing data from engagement activities to inform ongoing work and enhance strategies that lead to sustainable engagement.
Represent the university, the Advancement division, and Alumni Relations team in a professional, enthusiastic manner with a customer service and team focus. As a member of the Advancement division, to understand and actively support the role philanthropy plays in engaging the Northeastern community. This position requires performance of duties in person on the Boston campus.
Evening and weekend work required as events, programs, and activity needs dictate, along with occasional local and regional travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree required. At least three (3) years of experience in a combination of alumni relations, student affairs, fundraising, or event management. Experience working in higher education with students and alumni is a plus. This role requires excellent coordination, organization, and written and oral communication skills, including a strong phone presence. Ability to work independently and be productive with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment on several projects at a time is necessary. The ideal candidate will also be detail-oriented with strong customer service and interpersonal skills and have a high level of self-confidence and enthusiasm, as well as proficiency with virtual communication platforms and online learning tools. A self-starter who is flexible to changing priorities, adaptable to new systems and able to interact professionally and diplomatically with students, alumni, volunteers, parents, staff, faculty, vendors and external entities is preferred.
Strong computer skills including proficient use of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word are required; Experience with Salesforce and Cvent is helpful.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES- Relationship Building
Cultivate lifelong relationships between honorees and the university by providing educational opportunities and creating meaningful ways for alumni and current student honorees to engage with the university's strategic goals and alumni interests. Conduct face to face meetings with alumni and student honorees to discover their needs, learn more about their experiences, and ensure they know how to continue their relationship with Northeastern. Create a network of informed alumni and students who support the university's engagement and philanthropic vision. - 50% - Event Logistics and Production Assistance
Identify unique opportunities and access points for honorees not available to others. Collaborate with internal partners on selection, stewardship and recognition strategies, collateral, and events for the engagement of current student honorees. - 25% - Data Management and Reporting
Track and analyze activity participation and outcomes, using data to inform continuous improvement efforts. Prepare regular reports on activity effectiveness and alumni engagement metrics for benchmarking and awareness. - 15% - Administrative Operations
Ensure administrative responsibilities, including but not limited to meeting follow up, post visit call reports, data tracking and entry, inquiries, and information updates, are performed accurately and responded to in a timely manner. - 5%
