Location: Madison or Milwaukee, WI (Please note: Employment with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin requires residence or willingness to relocate to the state of Wisconsin.)

The Opportunity: The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is seeking a Deputy Voter Protection Director to focus on the post-election process, including post-election canvass, tabulation, and certification of results. A successful candidate will have a strong sense of personal initiative, respect for the sensitivity and confidentiality of information, the ability to balance many tasks at once with enthusiasm and positivity, and the ability to work with a wide variety of volunteers and stakeholders. This position will report to the Wisconsin Voter Protection Director.
Job Responsibilities:
- Create systems and processes to prepare for potential post-election scenarios.
- Become an expert in Wisconsin election law and procedure in order to develop strategies and programming to counter efforts to subvert election results, including post-election strategies and operations. This includes, but is not limited to matters related to vote count, canvass, recount, and certification.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteer observers to monitor each of those areas and advocate for proper law to be followed for each stage of the post-election process.
- Prepare memos on various ballot chase and cure, vote count, canvass, recount, and certification processes, including potential pitfalls.
- Track subversion efforts and work with state and national teams to develop and execute organizing and legal strategies to counter these efforts.
- Interact on subversion issues with state and local election administrators.
- Monitor proposed and active legislation, litigation, and regulations that impact post-election operations or create opportunities for subversion.
Qualifications (Required):
- Juris Doctorate degree or prior experience managing/administering post-election activities.
- Strong legal research and writing abilities; as well as a solid understanding of organizing principles.
- Proven Project Management Experience - Prior experience planning, overseeing and leading strategic projects from ideation to completion. You follow up on next steps and ensure there are no dropped balls.
- Multitasking In A Fast Paced Environment - Able to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy and displays ability to efficiently juggle multiple tasks.
- Cultural Competency - Able to build authentic relationships across lines of difference, such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, gender identity, citizenship status, or other identities. Understands how to take an inclusive lens into all aspects of work.
- Collaborative - Eager to work with other departments, such as data, political, organizing and communications to accomplish goals.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience giving public presentations.
- Commitment to the DPW’s Values - A strong commitment to protecting the right to vote and expanding access to the ballot, advancing the Democratic agenda, strengthening the Democratic Party, and winning elections.
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Experience managing staff and volunteers.
- Wisconsin experience or ties.
- Proficient in VAN, LBJ, Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets.
- Political organizing and/or campaign experience.
- Previous voter protection, poll observer, poll worker, or hotline volunteer experience.
