This position is responsible for developing and implementing activities associated with HIV/AIDS surveillance activities, including investigation of suspected and confirmed cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) that is reportable to FDOH. This position requires knowledge of health care services, principles and methods of epidemiology, and the ability to collect and analyze data from surveillance activities. This position is assigned to the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County and functions under the supervision of the HIV/AIDS Surveillance Medical/Health Care Program Analyst - SES.
The Employee in this position acts as a Field Area Manager of a Geographic Area assigned by the HIV/AIDS Surveillance Medical/Health Care Program Analyst - SES. The incumbent will follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and information security regulations to ensure confidentiality and privacy of client health information. The incumbent will establish good rapport with staff and clients and provide positive customer service. The incumbent is expected to adhere to established Health Department policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include:
- Establishing active liaison with medical institutions and medical specialists likely to diagnose and provide treatment for HIV/AIDS patients.
- Initiating routine procedures in conjunction with Dade County Public Health Department personnel and determining if reported cases meet case definition.
- Assisting in maintaining a local registry of reported cases.
- Providing technical assistance, consultation, and training to state, city or local health officials, private and public organizations and institutions regarding investigation and surveillance of HIV/AIDS.
- Advising and assisting county health departments in planning, coordinating policy making, and evaluating program activities related to HIV/AIDS surveillance.
- Directing data collection and all surveillance activities for the assigned providers based on geographical zones.
- Assisting in special epidemiological investigations of confirmed HIV/AIDS cases.
- Performing duties of the HIV/AIDS Surveillance Liaison between FDOH and all private & public health care providers.
- Assisting in the development of methods to expand the system for HIV/AIDS surveillance.
- Providing training in surveillance techniques to public and private health care providers.
- Coordinating special epidemiological investigations of all HIV/AIDS Pediatric cases.
- Participating in MDCHD activities including Test Miami and other national events.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
