Where you will work
The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River, on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light, medium, and heavyweight coated paperboard. It is a well-invested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years. Located on 3,000 acres, the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1,940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Paper’s largest paperboard facility and is critical to the success of our strategy and future.
Augusta, Georgia is a vibrant community along the Georgia/South Carolina border about 150 miles east of Atlanta and 70 miles west of Columbia. What you will do
The Senior Technical Manager is a member of the Augusta PPD leadership team. This role is responsible for establishing a vision to improve the overall effectiveness of the site’s process and product quality, engineering, and continuous improvement. This role is also responsible for providing technical engineering support across the site’s pulp, power, and recovery portfolio, and paper-making assets. This role will lead the technical team toward accomplishing the organizational mission-critical objectives, continuous improvement, and operational optimization objectives, delivering measurable value-added initiatives.
Operational Leadership
- Serves as the principal contact for process engineering support and resourcing inclusive of developing ad hoc response resources and partnerships with operations excellence/external engineering firms.
- Champions and collaborates with the leadership team in coordination of resources to meet the needs of operations.
- Provides expertise for troubleshooting as needed to support the operations.
- Fosters an operating environment that encourages employee engagement by demonstrating and modeling Clearwater Paper’s Core Values.
- Drives a culture of technical collaboration throughout application engineering technical experts across the division.
- Champions and executes Clearwater Paper’s Talent and Performance Management process incorporating goal development and deployment, talent reviews, succession planning, and talent selection and development to ensure organization sustainment.
- Champions Augusta Intern and Co-Op processes.
- Enables technical sustainment plan by promoting development and transferring knowledge across work groups.
- Leads the continuous improvement process for the Augusta Operation.
- Effective and efficient project management within defined limits of authority (budget); seeks to deliver projects and operating budgets within targets.

What you will need
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, operations management, or related field required; Master’s in engineering or MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive responsibility in manufacturing operations and management required.
- 5+ years of budgetary responsibilities (Project or Operating Budget).
- Experience in the paper industry is strongly preferred.
- Experience in both manufacturing and commercial (sales) exposure is highly desired.
- Experience in Manufacturing, Customer Service, and Quality of Paper Board and Finished products (Folded Carton, Plate, Packaging grades, etc.) highly desired.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal development through continuing education, coaching, and developing others.
- Highly adept at performing at a fast pace communicating and collaborating across multiple stakeholders.
