Job Summary
The University of Utah Department of Internal Medicine (DOIM) is seeking an experienced and high-performing professional to join its leadership team. The Administrative Director will lead administration, operations, and finance for the department and will foster, facilitate, and ensure excellence and effectiveness in all facets of the Department’s administration and financial operations.
Position Summary
The Administrative Director (AD) directs the strategic initiatives and operations for the DOIM and serves as advisor to the Department Chair. The AD partners with the Chair, Vice Chairs, and Division Chiefs in support of all missions of the Department including patient care, teaching, research, services, and community engagement. The AD oversees all administrative operations of the Department including finance, research, education, clinical services, and human resources in support of the goals and mission of the University.
Responsibilities
- Directs the development and implementation of financial services, research administration, clinical services, and human resources.
- Supports the Chair to provide strategic direction for assigned units by setting short-term and long-term goals.
- Establishes and directs an administrative team at the department level.
- Supports the missions of the Department by working closely with each division chief.
- Supports the clinical mission of the Department through development and expansion of clinical programs.
- Supports the research mission of the Department with the Vice Chair for Research.
- Oversees aspects of faculty appointments, promotion/tenure, and retention.
- Supports the educational mission in coordination with the Vice Chair for Education.
- Collaborates to market and promote new and existing programs and services.
- Participates in committees to establish patient/customer service and administrative plans.
- Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, clinical field, or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); nine years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, staff management, and effective communications skills required.
Completion of hospital provided supervisory training within one year of employment may also be required.
This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related area highly preferred.
