Job Title: Procurement Category Leader – Direct Materials
Sun Chemical is seeking a Category Leader for Direct Materials to manage sourcing strategies for key raw material spend categories such as various resin chemistries, solvents, colorants, and additives. The role will be responsible for category management and sourcing strategies while identifying and executing productivity initiatives to optimize value and improve service and quality levels.
Functions/Responsibilities:
Category Strategy and Management:
- Develop and execute comprehensive category strategies for assigned raw materials, aligning with overall business objectives and regional requirements.
- Lead cross-functional teams in the development and implementation of sourcing strategies, including cost reduction initiatives and supplier relationship management.
- Conduct in-depth market analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities, supply risks, and emerging trends.
- Develop and implement total cost of ownership (TCO) strategies to optimize procurement spend.
- Manage key supplier relationships, including contract negotiations and performance management.
Financial Accountability and Performance:
- Own and manage the category budget, including forecasting, spending analysis, and variance reporting.
- Implement robust market tracking and reporting mechanisms to provide actionable insights.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through leveraging spend, optimizing supply chain processes, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Sustainability and Compliance:
- Develop and implement sustainable procurement strategies aligned with corporate goals and industry best practices.
- Awareness of industry best practices and emerging trends in Sustainable Procurement, and proactively recommending new initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and regional stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for category strategies.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers to drive performance and innovation.
- Effectively communicate category performance and strategies to key stakeholders.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of procurement responsibility, including sustainable procurement initiatives in direct raw materials, preferably in a manufacturing/chemical industry environment.
- Experience in global procurement/sourcing with a history of leading change and cost reduction in cross-cultural environments.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, highly organized, and possess excellent problem solving/decision making skills.
- Excellent analytical and business acumen including cost modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience with sustainability assessment platforms such as EcoVadis.
- Experience with SAP is a plus as well as a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office.
