Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced IT Quality Assurance Professional to join our Boston-based Information Technology Team. BHSI provides commercial property, casualty, healthcare professional liability, surety, executive, and professional lines insurance to global customers. We are creating and supporting multiple complex applications within BHSI and are seeking candidates with Enterprise Application IT experience. An ideal candidate will have hands-on experience testing on the Duck Creek platform and have a strong background in commercial P&C insurance underwriting or claims IT experience. Candidate should be very interested in solving hard problems and providing testing solutions, enjoy a multi-cultural environment, and bring creative energy to their work.
The IT QA Lead is accountable for engaging business users and IT team members throughout the lifecycle of projects and production. The role will actively engage and work with offshore-based consulting partners in leading and executing our quality assurance policy activities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Playing a hands-on role in driving successful test planning and execution for multiple concurrent Underwriting projects within a Policy system.
- Responsible for overall key QA initiatives of each project (test design, execution, defect management, UAT coordination, and reporting).
- Owning all QA estimations as well as capacity versus demand planning in any given release, planning delivery in close conjunction with other Project IT Leads.
- Engaging directly with non-technical business stakeholders on a global level, actively planning across several time zones to successfully execute User Acceptance Testing.
- Reporting, communicating, and elaborating upon project status, highlights, and risk to IT leadership.
- Working closely with both onsite and offshore Analysts to ensure delivery across all project areas.
- Coordinating with offshore QA contractors daily, maximizing time zone overlaps and widening avenues of communication for a full accounting of deliverables.
- Collaborating with peers and management to develop process standards and/or enhancements to prevent the re-occurrence of QA issues.
- Planning and facilitating production checkouts for all scheduled releases.
- Management of onsite direct report QA Analysts, overseeing work allocation, career development, and compensation cycles.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a QA Leadership role, supporting complex systems development or packaged software implementation efforts.
- 7+ years of experience in Quality Assurance analysis, testing, and execution on web-based and desktop applications.
- Experience working in regulated industries, preferably Commercial P&C Insurance Underwriting or Claims functions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, subject matter experts, and vendor resources.
- Effective time management, with the ability to execute and prioritize multiple projects at the same time.
- Candidate for this role must have a strong understanding of the End-to-End (E2E) software development process and system development lifecycle including E2E testing.
- Strong knowledge of defect systems such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Quality Center, or any other defect management tool.
- Expert in working with globally distributed teams.
- Hands-on style with strong problem-solving abilities and keen attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and with a team.
- Strong desire to learn and share knowledge with teammates.
- Prior experience with the Duck Creek Platform, or equivalent P&C insurance systems, is an advantage.
- Prior experience in building and implementing automation frameworks is preferred.
- ISO expertise is a plus.
