Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Operations Technology, you will be the leader responsible for UPS’ overall technical strategy and roadmap for robotics and automation controls, motion planning, and task planning, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market needs with a focus on delivery and implementation. Success is driven by a deep understanding of Engineering principles and automation technologies, and ensuring the successful execution of projects that align with strategic vision and goals.
The Vice President of Engineering, Robotics & Automation is a technology leader who develops solutions with a heavy focus on ideation and oversees operational excellence: gathering/aligning customer expectations, resolving design complaints, etc., to achieve solutions for the market. You will contribute substantial market intel and inside perspective relative to sellers of technology.
Core Responsibilities
- Evaluate the latest technological developments in the field with the intent of identifying and implementing high potential automation/robotics projects through a process of partnering and collaboration on solution development.
- Develop innovative automation solutions and technology developments from the initial concept phase through the complete development process.
- Manage global teams with broad spectrum responsibility and maintain multiple projects simultaneously.
- Design and conduct research programs including proof of concepts for automation process validation.
- Develop and test production test cases for automation projects, including running optimization simulations, collecting data, process reviews, evaluating new technologies, and presenting analyses.
- Execution of technology benchmarking studies in the field of automation.
- Project responsibility of $50 - 100 million+ a year.
- Assist in business case development and analysis for new process developments; analyze current and potential product/market segments.
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of project execution including mechanical design, electronics, controls, pneumatics, safety planning, and customer reviews.
- Maintain innovation project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating team activities, calculating time requirements, sequencing project elements, and resolving problems.
- Identify emerging technologies and industry disruptions to drive innovation within the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and prioritize technology initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in product and/or core technology development.
- Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in product, technology, or innovation engineering.
- External client-facing R&D experience managing ideation and operational excellence.
- Proven experience managing global technical teams.
- C-Suite/Executive communication acumen.
- Ability to travel up to 50% domestically within the USA, with minimal international travel.
- Strong preference to be domiciled in Atlanta, GA.
