Principal Job responsibilities include:
- Negotiating and drafting agreements relevant to a variety of aspects of the convenience store business.
- Working closely with management personnel to provide practical business solutions to day-to-day aspects of the business.
- Managing and coordinating with outside counsel as warranted.
- Providing education and training to other members of the legal department and various business teams.
- Identifying process for improvement with the legal department and the business and recommending and implementing solutions.
- Procurement/Contract management: Contract review, drafting and negotiation (globally, nationally, regionally and locally). Produce and update templates for contracts and other legal documents and participate in negotiations where required.
- Regulatory: Competition (FTC), liquor, environmental, lottery, and compliance with local and state laws.
- Privacy: Ensure compliance with US privacy laws/regulations, ensure privacy standards are up to date, review and negotiate agreements with a privacy component.
- IT Contracts: Review, draft and negotiate IT agreements.
- Marketing: Review and draft disclaimers, T&Cs for sales promotions, contests rules, advise the teams on laws and potential risks.
We will consider candidates with the following qualifications:
- A current State Bar license, in good standing.
- 10+ years of legal experience, preferably with a combination of corporate legal department and law firm experience.
- Experience and proficiency in the following legal areas: contract drafting and negotiations, retail and petroleum industry related issues, and counseling clients on business issues and transactions.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with legal and business partners worldwide.
- Strong relationship building skills.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail with a track record of managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and consistently meeting deadlines.
- A positive attitude.
