SUMMARY:
The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the overall management and administration of student financial aid for the Warren Alpert Medical School. The director develops the aid policy given budget parameters and enrollment goals, developing a strategy for implementing the policy and for tracking expenditures to maximize the full use of institutional scholarship and loan resources. The director must keep abreast of and implement any changes in federal regulation that govern the administration of federal aid that medical students receive. The director will review and award approximately four hundred financial aid applicants resulting in the disbursement of over $13.5M in financial assistance annually. The director is responsible for the management of daily operations of the financial aid process and direct supervision of employees dedicated to financial aid operations, management and continued development of the primary financial aid information system (Banner), and the Cognos reporting system, advising students and parents regarding financial aid policies and funding options. The director is solely responsible for all data gathering for the development of the aid policy each year and for the preparation of surveys and reports. The director sets policy for needs analysis, sets the packaging policy for institutional scholarship and loans and manages the institutional, federal aid and departmental budgets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- BA/BS degree required (Masters preferred).
- Minimum of 8 years of related work experience is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience required.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Competencies
- Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
- Thorough understanding of federal regulations that govern policy and delivery of aid, particularly as they relate to graduate/professional school students.
- Demonstrated proficiency in database management as well as skills with various applications (preferably Banner, Federal EDE, Filemaker, Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Proven leadership ability and excellent interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written) in order to consult with applicants and students, parents, University staff and leadership, and other constituencies.
- Excellent organizational skills needed for meticulous record-keeping and adherence to deadlines.
- Ability to make sound, independent decisions on all procedures and policies.
- Ability to work with and support students from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.
