POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Youth Program Coordinator
LOCATION/DEPT: Midwest Corps
REPORTS TO: Corps Officers
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

OUTCOMES
Assist with youth programming at the Midwest Corps. The focus will be on building relationships with the children and helping to maintain a structured, safe, and enriching environment for the children we serve.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Midwest After-school Programs (MAPS)
- Supervise pick-up/drop-off children from area Schools when the program is in operation.
- Coordinate transportation for student pick-ups.
- Be present in the classroom to ensure safe from harm standards are being met.
- Work with students in the classroom and build supportive relationships with them.
- Implement classroom rotation schedule between homework room, art class, dance class, and music lessons.
- Maintain discipline within the program and report issues to Corps leadership.
- Report progress on a weekly basis to Corps leadership.
- Strive to develop relationships with the children and their families.
- Report staff issues and student issues to the Corps leadership.
- Work with the participants' schools and families regarding educational issues as requested.
- Collect and keep stats necessary for Thomas Lyle Williams (TLW) grant and Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) reporting.
- Participate in weekly devotions provided to students by the Corps leadership.
- Support spiritual development in students as guided by Corps leadership.
Summer Day Camp
- Support the implementation and planning of Summer Day Camp events and activities.
- Interact with the Day Camp children in various programs and settings.
- Supervise daily schedule and activities.
- Delegate responsibilities among Day Camp counselors.
- Collect and receipt parent payments and fees.
Miscellaneous
- Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Under general supervision of the Corps Officers with some freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines.
This position supervises MAPS Classroom Monitor and Instructors along with Summer Day Camp Counselors.
In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Prior work with children required.
- A minimum of a high school diploma is required.
- College education in education and child development is preferred.

- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
POSITION LIMITATIONS
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will keep the Corps Officers informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is required to do light to moderate physical work and must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
- In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment, a PC, and recreational equipment.
- The work environment for this position includes an office and gym environment with a low noise level.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
