As a Discovery Manager Attorney - Vice President, Assistant General Counsel within our Litigation team, you will be an integral part of the team dedicated to advising on electronic discovery (eDiscovery) strategy and coordinating the end-to-end eDiscovery process for the Litigation Department in response to civil litigation, regulatory investigations, and confidential internal investigations. The Discovery Manager would be involved in leading and advising on eDiscovery strategy, the selection and oversight of document hosting and review vendors; and general discovery project management. You will confer with litigators, internal counsel, outside counsel, business and technology contacts as well as vendors.
Job responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day case details as the main point of contact throughout the discovery life cycle of a matter among all the collaborating parties.
- Conduct early matter outreach, discovery planning, budgeting, data scoping, tracking, status reporting, managing to timelines, memorializing key decisions and overseeing review and production requests.
- Facilitate early case assessment and review by coordinating with internal attorneys on various matters including high priority and time sensitive requests by conducting key searches, analyzing and reviewing documents, and providing summaries of critical communications and chronologies.
- Devise and implement strategies and workflows for matters and investigations throughout the discovery lifecycle.
- Manage document review on a matter level, working closely with internal attorneys and/or outside counsel, document hosting and review vendors, and internal case management personnel in creating and executing discovery plans.
- Collaborate with internal and outside counsel, document hosting and review vendors, business and technology teams, and internal case management personnel to identify and execute effective and efficient document preservation, collection and review methods appropriate to each matter, such as use of technology-assisted review and leveraging reporting/metrics to manage document collections and reviews.
- Actively participate in strategic initiatives for the Legal Discovery Management team.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- J.D. from an accredited law school as well as at least 5 years of practice experience.
- Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.
- Superior oral and written presentation skills required to provide status to key audiences in a concise, informative, and timely manner.
- All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
- Ability to prioritize work and effectively manage a large case load tracking multiple work streams.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Previous discovery experience at a consulting firm, discovery vendor, or top tier law firm.
- Deep understanding of discovery review platforms and experience with Technology Assisted Review (TAR) tools and workflows.
