As a Payments Attorney (Trust & Security) - Vice President, Assistant General Counsel within our Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) Payments Legal Team, you will support CCB’s Trust & Security organization, which has been tasked with driving initiatives across CCB aimed at protecting customers from fraud and scams, and addressing bad actors/wrongdoers. This is a significant priority for the Firm and provides a rapidly developing field within which to practice.
You will be a member of a high-performing, congenial, and supportive team that provides legal advice and strategic guidance on a broad range of issues to support the business in enhancing the operating model for fraud, scams and wrongdoer prevention. You will advise on issues that will have real impacts to our customers and will make the firm an industry leader in fraud and scam prevention. You will sit within the Consumer Payments Legal team, which covers Banking Payments and Commerce Payments, where you will also be exposed to legal issues involving both traditional and innovative payment methods of payments, product offerings, wallets and networks.

Job Responsibilities
- Provide commercially pragmatic and trusted legal advice on the reasonableness and/or viability of Trust & Security initiatives focused on scam prevention, claims management, and wrongdoer prevention;
- Interact with and provide support to senior business clients, other legal teams, and control partners on legal issues, new business initiatives, regulatory items and product roadmap and strategy;
- Evaluate and provide trusted advice regarding risks and concerns related to payments products and initiatives and applicable laws and regulations, including EFTA, the Uniform Commercial Code, Regulation Z, UDAAP/UDAP, and GLBA;
- Collaborate with other control partners to ensure appropriate awareness, escalation and resolution of issues;
- Participate in legal department and/or cross line of business initiatives and projects, including fostering awareness of emerging payments issues across CCB and Corporate and Investment Bank Legal;
- Participate as the team representative in certain committees, programs and forums, and ensure other team members are aware of relevant issues;
- Contribute to the strong culture, collaboration, and cohesiveness of the Payments legal team.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state in which the position is based or otherwise be in or gain compliance with the in-house counsel registration of that state.
- At least five years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A natural ability and inclination to think and act collaboratively and as a strong team player.
- The flexibility, perseverance and patience necessary to work through ambiguity and see a matter to completion.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, combined with effective time management.
- The ability to foster and maintain strong relationships with business partners of all levels, other lawyers, control partners, and external stakeholders.
- An ability to bring to bear different perspectives to achieve the best outcome for the Firm, while also being able to comfortably work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Prior experience with or interest in payments and/or technology matters.
- Familiarity with consumer protection and finance laws (e.g., Regulation E, UCC, UDAAP, ADA).
- A good sense of humor.
