About the Position
The Director of Finance at the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) provides strategic financial leadership, overseeing all budgeting, financial planning, and management activities. Reporting directly to the Executive Officer, the Director ensures the efficient and effective operation of NAM's financial functions, aligning them with the organization's long-term objectives. This role involves direct supervision of finance staff, coordination with program and administrative units, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational policies. The Director plays a key role in guiding the financial strategy and supporting the financial integrity of NAM through innovative problem-solving and strategic resource allocation.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Financial Leadership and Strategy: Provides comprehensive financial leadership at NAM. Develops and implements NAM's financial strategy, crucial for long-term planning and sustainability. Establish and oversee the budgeting process, ensuring efficient resource allocation aligned with strategic goals.
- Financial Management and Analysis: Oversees day-to-day financial management activities, including preparing financial projections and authorizing expenditures. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of financial reports and adherence to auditing requirements.
- Supervision of Finance Staff: Leads and manages the finance team, fostering a collaborative work environment and ensuring staff development and excellence.
- Proposal and Grant Management: Manages financial aspects of proposals, contracts, and grants, ensuring compliance and sound financial practices.
- Investment Management: Oversees NAM's investment activities, ensuring compliance with donor intentions and strategic priorities.
- Compliance and Continuous Improvement: Ensures adherence to standardized financial processes and seeks opportunities for operational improvement.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of accounting and financial management principles, federal regulations, and OMB Circulars. Ability to manage sensitive information and solve complex financial problems.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
Minimum Experience: Eight years of related professional experience, three of which were in a supervisory capacity.
Preferred Education: Master's in Business Administration.
Physical Capabilities: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
Compensation Range: Estimated compensation range for this position is $101,130 - $158,015, based on relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
Work Environment: Hybrid Office/Telecommute environment, expected onsite percentage 60%, with occasional travel.
