Chewy is hiring a Software Development Manager for our Supply Chain Outbound Science Team in Boston, MA! This position will have exposure across the entire supply chain enterprise, influencing the vision and implementation of architecture, design, and features that directly impact the company's bottom line. What You’ll Do
- Technical Leadership Expertise:
- Provide strategic direction and technical leadership in developing, deploying, and maintaining reliable applications for supply chain planning based on data science models and algorithms.
- Collaborate with data scientists and multi-functional PMs or partners to translate business requirements into scalable and efficient data-driven solutions.
- Code Quality and Review:
- Establish and implement coding standards, code review processes, and quality assurance practices.
- Conduct regular code reviews, providing constructive feedback to improve code quality, readability, and maintainability.
- Implement automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous integration and delivery.
- AWS Expertise and Cloud Architecture:
- Apply your expertise in AWS services to architect and implement scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
- Design and deploy cloud-native applications maximizing services like S3, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, and ECS/EKS.
- Implement best security, compliance, and performance optimization practices in AWS environments.
- Project Planning and Execution:
- Collaborate with product managers and customers to manage backlog, prioritize features, and establish realistic timelines.
- Drive project execution, identifying key breakthroughs and dependencies, resourcing, managing progress, addressing impediments, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
- Team Development and Mentorship:
- Manage a team of software engineers spread across Chewy hubs responsible for Chewy’s Supply Chain planning application, and based on data-science models and solutions. Mentor and coach engineers, guiding technical skills development, career growth, and professional excellence.
- Identify team training opportunities and skill gaps, implementing initiatives to enhance technical capabilities and expertise.
- Cultivate a supportive and inclusive team culture that values diversity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit and hire new engineers and mentor the growth of the existing team.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with teams, including product management, design, quality assurance, and operations, to align priorities and deliver integrated solutions.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between teams, resolving conflicts and fostering a culture of visibility and accountability.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, or a similar math or engineering field, or equivalent work experience
- 5-10 years of experience in Software Development as a software/data engineer.
- Excellent ability to develop teams and lead from the front.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, focusing on delivering results and value to customers.
- Extensive experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and proficiency in cloud architecture design and implementation. Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB.
- Solid understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and tools (e.g., JIRA, Git).
- Solid fundamental background in multiple testing disciplines (e.g., APIs, Functional UI testing, Performance testing, data-oriented systems testing, distributed systems, etc.).
- Position may require travel.
Compensation & Benefits
Our salary range for a Software Development Manager position is $146,500.00 - $234,500.00. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
