Senior Fleet Staff Engineer
The Opportunity:
The Senior Fleet Staff Engineer (SFSE) will be able to take a small to medium capital or repair project from concept to completion with some supervision. The SFSE will also assist in support of other medium to large Fleet Engineering projects as assigned. The position will also interface with other GLDD engineering and procurement staff, outside engineering services, regulatory bodies, fabricators, shipyards, as well as equipment vendors. Safe, functional, and cost-effective designs are the FSE’s goal for all assignments.

Responsibilities:
- Take small to medium sized projects from conceptual design through to final design and implementation including:
- Identify work scope of project
- Schedule project based on current resources and priority
- Create AutoCAD models and drawings to support project design and fabrication
- Perform all engineering analysis needed for complete design
- Work with outside engineering firms or internal GLDD engineering resources as needed
- Review and approve drawings
- See project through regulatory review and approval as required
- Pre-inspect equipment to identify potential design or installation problems and to prove proper design integration
- Write specifications
- Develop and maintain detailed project budget and schedule, working with Fleet Cost Accountant for capital budgeting and reporting
- Obtain prices and schedules from shipyards, fabricators, and other vendors
- Oversee fabrications and installations when required
- Produce AutoCAD models and drawings to meet the needs of GLDD Fleet Engineering in support of Operations, Production, and Maintenance departments
- Report to the Fleet Engineering Technical Manager or Fleet Engineering Projects Manager supplying regular status reports
- Assist other Fleet Engineers in larger engineering tasks as assigned
- Work with Purchasing and equipment engineers in the procurement process to ensure technical compliance and product quality
- Maintain a high standard for equipment as set by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock and regulatory bodies
- Create designs with a commitment to the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) safety program
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
- 5 years of experience in engineering (marine or dredging related industry preferred)
- Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D Autodesk CAD products, Microsoft Excel and Word
- Proficiency with Autodesk Nastran In-CAD FEA and PTC Mathcad preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with 46 CFR requirements and marine classification society rules preferred
- Shipyard experience is a plus
- Up to 35% travel is required
- Must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship
