Job Purpose
To support these efforts, National Grid is hiring a Senior Analyst, Customer Energy Management for our New York Customer Energy Management (CEM) department in Syracuse, Albany, Long Island or Brooklyn, NY. This role will report to the Manager of the Residential, or Commercial & Industrial, Category Team in the CEM NY organization. This is a hybrid role that may be required to work in a National Grid office for multiple days each week.
Under CEM NY, the Market Rate product owner team supports all customer segments and portfolios within New York, ranging from residential, multifamily, and small and large commercial customers. We live in the Customer Organization at National Grid and are responsible for representing the customer's perspective in the work we deliver.
Our team works closely to align with and support the low- and moderate-income (LMI) portfolios, though we are accountable for the Market Rate (i.e., non-LMI) segment.
The Senior Analyst will primarily focus on adding value to the company's energy efficiency and demand response portfolios across all customer segments in the New York jurisdictions. The successful candidate's experience with energy efficiency, demand response, weatherization, and heat pump programs will inform the work scope of this position.
Key Accountabilities (including but not limited to):
- Program and portfolio strategy and management: Provide support to the Customer Energy Management team as product owner focused on following the product life cycle for programs, products, and offerings designed to achieve energy efficiency targets, demand management and climate change objectives throughout the company to advance National Grid's position as a leader in these fields. Contributes to EE portfolios by developing and supporting the execution of program strategies, including annual budgets and energy savings targets. Continuously enhances and optimizes the program to lower costs, maximize energy savings and customer/contractor benefits, leverage new technologies, and respond to feedback from internal National Grid stakeholders and external stakeholders (e.g., customers, contractors, industry groups, NY Department of Public Service (DPS) Staff, etc.)
- Regulatory support: Lead development and implementation of relevant regulatory policy and strategy in consultation with CEM NY, Legal, Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Affairs, and other National Grid teams to develop regulatory filings to support company proposals and comply with NY Public Service Commission requirements.
- Track, analyze, and report program data to drive results: Work with NY EE Program Managers and other partner teams to track, analyze, and report data on program performance (e.g., savings, spend, etc.) to inform program enhancements and optimizations, meet regulatory requirements and compliance obligations, as well as support program growth and the achievement of EE portfolio energy savings targets.
- Stakeholder collaboration and management: Lead communication and collaboration with internal business partners and stakeholders to provide input on program plans and develop processes for delivery of approved plans, support compliance with company reporting, evaluation, and policy objectives. Identify market research needs and incorporate evaluation findings to meet regulatory obligations and to support development and enhancement of products and services. Coordinate and collaborate with key external stakeholders (e.g., NY State Public Service Commission, DPS Staff, NYSERDA, NY Joint Utilities, etc.) to enhance program performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a business, social science, or engineering related area and 5+ years of related experience, or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree/credits are preferred.
- 5+ years of energy efficiency, equipment design, or energy industry related analytical and/or regulatory work, including defining program strategies, budgets and targets (e.g., energy savings) for energy efficiency and/or other energy-related offerings for customers.
- Knowledge of the electric and gas industry, heat pump technology, energy management systems, electric demand response, and/or energy efficiency program planning, design, implementation and evaluation.
- Regulatory experience, including managing regulatory processes or contributing to regulatory filings at the local, state, or national level.
- Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies and practices.
- Knowledge of relevant industry practice and legislation.
- Proficient in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
Capability Requirements
- Able to lead by influence and work effectively with teams of 10 or more people in a matrixed environment with limited supervisor support or oversight.
- Takes personal responsibility for developing and managing plans, as well as correcting problems promptly, and communicates customer/stakeholder expectations to monitor delivery and satisfaction.
- After analyzing data, the candidate can see multiple relationships, identifying several likely causes or consequences of EE program results.
- Sees patterns or trends in EE, demand management, and climate change data, noticing when something is similar to the past and applying previous learnings to the current situation.
- Establishes the facts by digging deeper, asking probing questions and challenging initial responses from different sources within the EE area and collaborators at National Grid.
- Promotes team effectiveness by soliciting input from team members, communicating expectations of the team, and delegating responsibilities while providing support and structure as appropriate.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities.

Salary
Downstate NY: $112,000 - $132,000 a year
Upstate NY: $94,000 - $110,000 a year

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
