The Boston Roche Innovation Center (BRIC) is a data/statistical science innovation unit at the intersection of statistics and artificial intelligence/machine learning focused on developing new methods and digital applications in support of drug development decision-making. As a relatively new team, BRIC is seeking exceptional candidates that are interested in bringing expertise, enthusiasm, and an entrepreneurial spirit to help establish our culture of innovation and user-centered product development, and to drive us to success overall. Your activities may span multiple therapeutic areas, a wide range of data and computational approaches, and collaborations with a variety of teams and stakeholders, including experts internal and external to Roche. You will be an indispensable member of the BRIC team and work closely with the center leadership.
The OpportunityYou are an experienced product designer with solid experience working closely with our leadership team from initial concept and strategy through the execution of interaction and visual design as we build innovative data science and information synthesis capabilities, enabling clinical scientists, quantitative modelers, and business leaders to make informed drug development decisions with ease. You are a passionate designer who will play an important role in defining our experience, look, feel and style. You are comfortable tackling tough problems with elegant solutions, you have a broad based knowledge and have often hashed out big-picture workflow and strategy when prototyping detailed visual and interaction execution. This position, initially an individual contributor role, requires a proven track record of design leadership and user-centered innovation. You inspire the product team with your designs and clearly communicate your UX vision in Healthcare and digital/SaaS product design.
- Engaged in the full end-to-end lifecycle of product and experience design from initial user research to final pixel quality and product launch for Boston Roche Innovation Center portfolio.
- Partner with BRIC leadership and product owner(s) to help inform product strategy, and collaborate with the team to define and drive a product vision.
- Conduct problem discovery, collect user insights and preferences, and help drive product requirements and design specifications.
- Work with cross-functional teams to design delightful user experiences by translating product requirements into engaging design concepts and simple interaction models.
- Concept intuitive designs that promote usability and optimize the user experience of our products. Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions.
- Work closely with core team throughout the product lifecycle to ensure product vision is achieved and delivered. Work with product managers to understand business needs and balance these with user requirements. Work with engineers on interface implementation.
- Ensure interfaces are held to a consistently high standard of user-centered design and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
- Lead user research efforts using a variety of different qualitative research methodologies.
Who you are:- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Information Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Human Factors, or equivalent / relevant experience.
- 8+ years of professional experience in end-to-end product design.
- 6+ years of interaction design experience with knowledge to define users' needs.
- 6+ years experience around goal definition, able to find opportunities and make decisions based on user impact.
- 6+ years of visual design experience with proficiency in typography, color, layout, iconography, desktop, responsive web, and aesthetic sense and how these elements impact product function.
Preferred- The ideal candidate has experience in the following forms:
Working in the healthcare industry, ideally biotechnology or similar sectors, building digital and/or SaaS products supporting analysis and decision making, designing products focused on scientific or quantitative users. - Proven ability to lead complex design projects with minimal supervision, including requirements gathering, stakeholder management, leading workshops and research activities, developing and managing project timelines, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality deliverables while collaborating across agile teams.
- Extensive experience thinking in terms of end-to-end UI design, applying strategic thinking and business goals to designs, focusing on user feedback, and understanding the relation of visual design to the interaction through navigation, user flows, and information architecture.
- Equally successful in projects where you are collaborating with other UX designers and where you are working autonomously as the sole UX expert on a product team.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, equally at ease speaking with development teams or executives when articulating and advocating design concepts and rationale, negotiating and influencing to build consensus.
- High degree of creativity and problem solving from big picture to little details, able to move nimbly between strategy and execution with excellent follow-through.
- Passionate about all things UX and other areas of design and innovation, and about resolving user challenges through great design.
- Positive attitude, open mind, and a desire to collaborate and learn.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment in which you learn and iterate quickly, incorporating feedback.
- Expert in standard UX software such as Sketch, Adobe CC, Figma, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq and the like.
- A strong portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience and UX skills including a well-grounded sense of interactive design with respect to creating simple, elegant, aesthetically pleasing interfaces based on usability principles is required.
Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Boston, MA is $136,200.00 - $253,000.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
