The opportunity:
Manage variety of components of the monthly, quarter-end, and year-end close process for multi-ledgers, ensuring timely and accurate reporting with proper documentation; and analyzing and improving internal controls.
How you will contribute:
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure updated accounting system by, in some cases creating, and in other cases, reviewing and approving journal entries for various income statement and balance sheet transactions.
- Ensure accurate financial records by reconciling and resolving issues of all general ledger and sub-ledger activity.
- Review and approve general ledger reconciliations.
- Identify and lead teams in process improvements.
- Responsible for variance analysis to budget and forecast.
- Ensuring reporting deadlines are met and daily cash is monitored.
- Ensuring that the administrative processes and deliverables comply with the contractual agreements, and accuracy and timeliness are maintained to standard.
- Provide support for outside audits by preparing required and accurate documents.
- Support outside regulatory agencies (independent auditors, DOI, DOR, IRS, etc.) by preparing and analyzing a variety of financial data and schedules.
- Meet internal and external customer financial needs of Senior management, Directors and Practices by providing timely reports as requested.
- Liaison with other Sun Life departments and research and respond to inquiries.
- Ensure premium and claim amounts are reasonable month to month. Work with staff to identify and document reasons for larger fluctuations.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls, including but not limited to timely review of balance sheets and various other monitoring activities.
- Managing staff in fulfilling the abovementioned responsibilities.
- Assist with special projects as time permits.
What you will bring with you:
Experience & Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
- CPA Preferred.
- 7 years or more of accounting experience (mix of Public and Corporate preferred).
- 3 years or more of Health Care Experience.
Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Strong understanding of accounting / financial principles.
- Advanced Excel skills for reporting and analysis.
- Well organized with strong attention to detail.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal direction.

- Southern California region: 116,700-175,100 annually.
- Central California region: 123,000-184,500 annually.
- Northern California region: 131,500-197,300 annually.
If you are a Minnesota, Colorado or Nevada resident, the salary range for this position is 111,400-167,100 annually.
If you are an Illinois, Connecticut or Maryland resident, the salary range for this position is 116,700-175,100 annually.
If you are Washington, Washington D.C., and Rhode Island resident, the salary range for this position is 123,000-184,500 annually.
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is 131,500-197,300 annually.
