We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineering Manager to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for owning the mechanical and systems design for our instrument, Callisto. A successful candidate will have experience managing large teams and launching and managing post-launch product development activities.
Day To Day and Year 1:
- Drive the development of high-quality mechanical/systems designs and solutions, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability standards.
- Manage, develop and build a team of 5+ mechanical and systems engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects from concept through to production, working cross-functionally with other organizations.
- Act as a key liaison between the engineering team and senior management, providing regular updates on project status, strategic initiatives, and potential challenges.
Within 3 months you’ll…
Understand Volta Labs’ mission, values, and organizational structure, assess the status of ongoing projects and identify immediate issues, and meet with cross-functional teams to gather feedback and expectations.
By 6 months you’ll…
Create a strategic plan for the engineering team aligned with company goals, introduce enhancements and standardization to engineering processes and tools, and collaborate regularly with other departments to drive company initiatives.
At 12+ months you’ll…
Drive long-term engineering initiatives and monitor progress, continue to develop and support your team while identifying future leaders, provide regular updates to executive leadership on engineering performance, and create a roadmap for future projects and innovation strategies.
Your Experience:
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in mechanical engineering, with a proven track record of managing, developing, and leading engineering teams in a senior or management role.
- Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design, product development, and manufacturing processes, with a deep understanding of complex engineering systems.
- Strong project management skills, including experience with Agile or other project management methodologies, and the ability to handle multiple high-impact projects simultaneously.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and external partners.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
This is a full-time position that requires a significant amount of in-person work and collaboration onsite at our Seaport Office in Boston, MA. If you are unable to relocate or commute to the Boston MA area, this role won't be a match.
