Position Summary
The University of New Mexico (UNM) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a motivated and committed individual to lead the Department's American Psychological Association (APA) - Accredited and Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) Member Pre-Doctoral Psychology Internship Program as the Training Director. Applications are being accepted for an academic faculty clinical psychologist, suitable for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor for a full-time position in our Division of Psychological Sciences. This position offers the opportunity to grow, develop and refine the internship training program, in addition to the opportunity to guide and mentor Psychology Interns and have a positive impact on our community. The Internship training program is critical to the development of a diverse behavioral health care workforce in New Mexico.
The UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) is the only academic health complex in the entire state and it prioritizes four key mission areas - Education, Research, Clinical Care and Community Engagement - to provide New Mexicans with the highest level of health care possible and to improve health equity. This also provides opportunity for transdisciplinary scholarship and research in collaboration with UNM Main Campus, College of Population Health, College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, School of Medicine, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Clinical and Translational Science Center, Law School, and community organizations.

The Training Director will:
- Maintain good standing with APPIC and APA as an Accredited Internship Training Program and APPIC Member;
- Have primary responsibility and oversight over the administration of the Internship training program and the supervision of Psychology Interns;
- Engage in ongoing self-study and quality improvement efforts and use that feedback to continuously improve the Internship training program;
- Oversee annual Intern recruitment, interviewing, and APPIC match process annually;
- Coordinate with HR and institutional entities around the onboarding and orientation process for Interns;
- Act as point of contact for trainees and supervisors for Internship related questions and concerns;
- Coordinate annual Internship didactic schedule;
- Coordination with individual Internship supervisors around training needs;
- Coordinate and collaborate with Intern's doctoral home graduate programs as needed;
- Partner with the Assistant Training Director to facilitate monthly meetings with the Psychology Internship Executive Committee;
- Partner with the Assistant Training Director to facilitate monthly meetings with each Internship Track;
- Partner with the Assistant Training Director to facilitate weekly meeting with the Internship Administrative Team;
- Serve as a positive representative of the Internship training program for the Department within the UNM School of Medicine and broader communities;
- Continue to implement a systematic and long-term effort to recruit and retain diverse Interns;
- Encourage and support Department-level efforts to recruit and retain diverse training supervisors;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or comparable Psychology discipline from an American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited University;
- Eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor;
- License eligible as a Psychologist in the State of New Mexico;
- Minimum of two years post-licensure as a Psychologist;
- Minimum of two years of supervisory experience;
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities;
- Actively licensed as a Psychologist in the State of New Mexico;
- Experience in education of Psychology Interns and/or other trainees;
- Experience with managing an APA Accredited training program at the Predoctoral or Postdoctoral level or comparable experience with other accredited educational/training programs;
- Significant role related to navigating APPIC and/or APA Accreditation processes;
- Program management or significant leadership experience, including operation and management of clinical, training or administrative programs;
- Experience in serving on committees to ensure clinical competency and program quality and adherence to national standards;
- Ability to effectively organize time and prioritize responsibilities;
- Ability to respond with an appropriate level of urgency to issues raised by others, prioritize importance, and resolve issues or delegate as appropriate;
- Commitment to professional learning for self and for others;
- Excellent decision-making capacity (ability to have hard conversations and mediate good answers);
- Ability to be an active advocate for trainees/learners while ensuring they keep up their assigned and appropriate responsibilities;
- Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information and solid understanding of sound ethical practice;
- Ability to handle periods of high stress without transferring that stress to others;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Conflict resolution skills and experience.
