Job Description
Responsibilities include Cardiothoracic Surgery services in outpatient, inpatient, and Emergency Department settings. Tasks include but are not limited to:
- On-site Open-Heart Cardiothoracic Surgery including Pacemaker and Pericardial Window procedures, VATs, Lobectomy, thoracotomy, diaphragm plication, chest wall hernia repair, decortication, pleurectomy, chest tube management w/tPA.
- Initial patient evaluations and pre and post-op care.
- Cardiothoracic Surgery Consults.
- Back-up for Interventional Cardiology (PCI) cases.
- Back-up for Cath Lab procedures.
- Communication of Test Results and patient discharge education.
- Medication management.
- Administrative work relevant to care provided, job performance, or facility organization.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
- Current, full and unrestricted license in one or more state, commonwealth, territory or DC.
- Applicants who have ever had a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application are not eligible.
- Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent.
- 4 Years experience in the last 5 years.
- DEA License.
- Previous VA or Military experience strongly preferred but not required.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
Education Required:
- Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent required. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/clinic work environment.
- Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- May require bending, stooping and lifting to 25 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
- Must be local or relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.
- Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance and pass VHA credentialing process.
- Able to provide references.
Final Submission must include:
- A narrative detailing experience in performing QA procedures, including details discussing QA monitors, QA plans, and performance improvement plans related to Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- A narrative detailing equipment experience: a. cardiac perfusion pump; b. heater-cooler; c. Impella Cardiac Assist; d. Intra-aortic balloon pump; and e. endoscopic vessel harvesting (EVH) vein harvesting system.

Compensation: Min: $450,000 Max: $500,000. Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
