Job Description
Role:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a pivotal role in driving financial results and shaping the long-term future of a high performing Credit Union. They are responsible for determining the short-term and long-term Accounting, Finance, and Risk Management objectives for the Credit Union as a whole, as well as for significant initiatives (i.e. Mergers, Acquisitions, Derivatives, etc.) that drive the Credit Union's growth. The CFO oversees the development, implementation, and execution of strategic initiatives to achieve the Credit Union's objectives in accordance with policies established by the President/CEO and the Board of Directors. The position monitors the performance of the Credit Union and the economic environment to mitigate risks while fostering the growth of the Credit Union in a balanced, intelligent manner. Additionally, the role maintains primary oversight of Liquidity and Interest Rate Risk.
The CFO is a key leader in our team, coordinating our investments, efforts, and financial resources. They actively seek opportunities to strengthen Gulf Winds' operations and protect the Credit Union's financial strength. The CFO develops mechanisms to ensure sound information and analysis that is pertinent and timely. They also collaborate closely with executive management team members, auditors, and regulators.
As part of their leadership responsibilities, the CFO provides crucial oversight to subordinate leaders in key areas such as Accounting, Finance, and Risk Management. This ensures that these areas are effectively managed and aligned with the Credit Union's overall objectives, underscoring the CFO's role in maintaining the Credit Union's financial health and stability.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Directs and monitors Accounting, Finance, and Risk Management operations for the entire Credit Union through subordinate leaders to ensure the Credit Union meets established goals and objectives with respect to its strategic vision and mission. Responsible for collaborating with divisional leaders to develop and maintain a future-focused divisional strategic plan that drives financial growth and supports the overall strategic plan for the Credit Union.
Oversees the management and maintenance of the Credit Union's ALM models and profitability. Manages financial analysis to establish a system of appropriate internal controls and useful/actionable financial data. Ensure that the Credit Union makes good decisions based on the best analysis available at the time and build the team internally to make independent, informed, ethical, and wise decisions that are in the best interest of the credit union and its members. Formulates and recommends operating policies and objectives or changes in existing policies and objectives; ensures compliance with and implementation of approved policies and objectives. Reviews laws and regulations that impact compliance with respect to financial functions and makes recommendations for change where appropriate. Ensures sound services and working relationships with governmental bodies, key staff of significant vendors, with outside services, and with the general public.
Analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and provides analysis of the information presented. Reports include liquidity, investment, delinquency, productions, financials, consolidation, and regulatory reports. Reviews and evaluates investment opportunities for suitability to credit union's portfolio and has investment authority to make those changes. Prepares and updates credit union peer group related financial reports. Reviews and develops financial data collection and submission controls through the Credit Union's core processor programs and financial models.
Participates in Credit Union management issues through standing and ad hoc committees.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
- Develops effective strategic plans for Accounting, Finance, and Risk Management that support the overall strategic plan of the Credit Union. Allocates and aligns resources to meet plan objectives. Incorporates organizational priorities, strategies, goals, industry trends, and economic viability.
- Quality of the month-end close and financial reporting process to include regulatory reporting and production of the annual financial statements. Profitability models are maintained accurately and function with integrity; reports are produced on a timely basis with up-to-date information.
- Performance of the Investment Portfolio within the confines of the Liquidity Management program and the detailed reporting necessary to make sound decisions.
- Direct reports receive leadership, and coaching and evaluations provide value, hold the team accountable, and help the Credit Union become a high-performing Institution.
- Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, and policies, including but not limited to BSA, OFAC, and Physical Security.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Ten plus years of progressively responsible experience in managing Accounting and Finance functions, including experience in Asset Liability Management. Experience in Risk Management or Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a plus. Minimum five years of senior executive management experience.
Education: (1) A master's degree, or (2) a bachelor's degree plus professional certification (e.g., CPA).

Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an integral part of the position, and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to success. Physical Requirements: This role requires sitting at a computer for most of the day. This role would also require the ability to file files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary. Work Environment: The position is based in-office in our Pensacola, Florida market, operates primarily in an office setting, and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.
This position requires consistent presence in the office to collaborate with team members and fulfill job responsibilities effectively. It requires the ability to actively participate in conference calls and meetings with other Credit Union team members and vendors.
The normal expected work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. Occasional after-hours work or travel may be required to meet project deadlines or attend conferences, seminars, or client meetings.
