Job Summary:
NinjaHoldings is seeking a detail-oriented, positive, and hard-working Associate General Counsel who will report directly to the General Counsel. The Associate General Counsel will lead and manage the legal team, providing strategic legal advice across the organization. While our corporate office is located in downtown Chicago, this position has the potential to be fully remote or hybrid.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and manage the legal team, ensuring high performance and professional development.
- Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to digital lending, including Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), and other relevant laws.
- Oversee and manage all aspects of litigation, including private attorney arbitrations, lawsuits, and regulator enforcement actions.
- Respond promptly to a wide range of complex legal requests and coordinate closely with the teams to deliver practical, timely and high-quality advice.
- Identify and assess business and legal risks, and collaborate to find creative ways to mitigate them while achieving business goals.
- Handle all aspects of legal compliance with applicable laws and regulations, interpret existing and new laws and regulations and provide guidance to business teams.
- Work closely with business and technology teams to implement legal/regulatory changes.
- Experience dealing with regulatory bodies, regulatory exams, internal and third-party audits.
- Close collaboration with Compliance Department on initial and ongoing vendor due diligence, risk assessments, etc.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all company policies and procedures, including laws and regulations applicable to the company.
- Related projects as needed.
Requirements:
- J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
- 10 or more years of relevant experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm.
- Experience dealing with regulatory bodies, regulatory exams, internal and third-party audits.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to tolerate change and ambiguity.
- Ability and drive to take ownership of projects and tasks.
- Outstanding communication skills and ability to work both in teams and independently.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and cloud-based software generally.
