Position Purpose
Diagnosis and management of adult malignancies both benign and malignant, including use of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted treatment. Oversight of infusion therapy and management of disease-related symptoms.
Nature and Scope
The incumbent obtains history, examines, diagnoses, counsels, and treats patients within the physician's area of specialty and experience. The incumbent makes critical decisions regarding medical care. The incumbent works closely and in cooperation with the management staff, directs comments and questions to the appropriate management person and follows administrative policies. The incumbent actively participates in physician governance meetings, management decisions, and follows policies adopted by Carson Valley Health and its medical staff. The incumbent stays abreast of current advances in medicine by reviewing recent publications, attending in-services and educational meetings, and attending continuing medical education programs in the appropriate field.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Clinical:
- Provides clinical management and services of patients with identified diagnoses: malignancies, both liquid and solid tumors.
- May provide clinical oversight and supervision of the Medical Oncology Advance Practice Practitioners as requested, including: Medical Oncology and Specialty Clinics, as requested; Inpatient Rounding, when appropriate.
- Provides medical supervision of infusion services, as assigned.
- May perform daily hospital rounding and consultation oncology patients.
- Be available during regular business hours for inpatient consultations and the Emergency Department.
- Assures clinical collaboration with the interdisciplinary team of physician specialists, advanced practice providers, and ancillary support staff.
- Administrative:
- Responsible to Section Chief, Clinical Director of the CVH Clinics and the Administrative Director of the CVH Clinics.
- Assists in accomplishment of Medical Oncology and Infusion Center goals/objectives/tactics in collaboration with the other CVH physicians and administrators.
- Act as a liaison and collaborator with other providers within CVH.
- Quality Improvement:
- Participate in peer/continuous quality review (CQR) as requested.
- Participate, as requested, in quality studies and quality improvement activities.
- Collaborates with Infusion and Pharmacy, as requested, to assure protocols are up to date.
- Research: Serves as a resource for cancer research, infusion and medical oncology staff and actively enrolls patients that meet criteria for a clinical trial.
- Citizenship:
- Services will be provided on a courteous and prompt basis and shall be readily available to provide services to patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge and utilizes all programs and procedures used by CVH in its medical and administrative operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to function effectively in an integrated delivery system.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulatory rules.
- Capable of operating business units in conformance with good quality and business practices as may be outlined by agencies such as The Joint Commission, NCQA, MGMA, etc.
- Effective leadership skills (and leading by example).
- Ability to obtain results with minimal disruption while involving a variety of internal and external groups.
- Ability to work independently.
This position does provide patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.
- Experience: Completion of Hematology Oncology Fellowship, required. Prior experience in referenced specialty a plus.
- License(s): Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Nevada Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.
- Certification(s): Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) OR Board Eligible or Board Certified in Medical Oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) OR Board Eligible or Board Certified in Hematology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). If Provider is Board Eligible at time of hire, Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification, but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute.
- Computer / Typing: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
- Ability to credential through CVH's Medical Staff and/or payor credentialing, as applicable.
