Job Description
The SALT Director will have primary responsibility for state and local tax compliance and tax accounting including income, property, sales and use, and gross receipts taxes. This position will provide technical guidance within the tax department and as it relates to the operation of the business.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the income tax process for state and local income tax returns in approximately 40 states and 10+ local jurisdictions for Expeditors International of Washington and its subsidiaries
- Manage the process for all other taxes including sales and use, gross receipts, and property taxes
- Review and apply changes in state and local laws as they apply to income and other taxes
- Apply ASC 740 as it relates to state tax provisions
- Manage state and local tax controversy
- Review state tax return to provision reconciliations and related journal entries
- Mentor and develop employees in all areas of state and local taxation
- Implement process improvements for the state and local tax group to provide efficiencies for the team
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Accounting
- Certified Public Accountant
- 10+ years' experience in tax compliance-- in public accounting or a combination of public accounting and industry
- Ability to organize/analyze data, interpret results, and develop solutions
- Good interpersonal/communication skills, both oral and written
- Attention to detail; thorough and reliable
Additional Information
Expected base salary: $110,000- $120,000
