JOB SUMMARY
The Director, International Tax, reporting to the VP, Tax, is responsible for leading the organization's international tax strategy, managing global tax compliance across foreign jurisdictions, and optimizing the organizational tax structure and the structure of the international tax function to support the company's business objectives and growth. This Director, International Tax serves as a key advisor to the company's senior management, ensuring that the organization and its owners are strategic with tax planning associated with global business initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Planning and M&A:
- Proactively structure international business operations and implement strategic tax planning to enhance tax efficiency and reduce risks.
- Advise stakeholders and accounting teams on tax implications and recommended tax strategies of structuring transactions and implementing business plans.
- Oversee and advise on tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives, including structuring and due diligence of acquisitions and the integration of the related tax compliance.
- Analyze and interpret new tax regulations and legislation to assess their impact on the company and advise senior management accordingly.
- Engage in tax residency planning for shareholders and employees; collaborate with global strategists on shareholders' tax positions.
Stakeholder and Advisor Engagement:
- Develop strong collaborative relationships with business, finance, and tax leaders to manage significant tax matters.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including tax advisors and third-party investors of foreign acquisitions to support business and tax objectives.
Governance Over Tax Matters in Foreign Jurisdictions
- Direct the development and implementation of global tax policies and maintain governance standards around tax strategies and compliance in foreign jurisdictions.
- Oversee foreign tax audits, manage legislation analysis, and adapt strategies to comply with changes in international tax laws.
International Tax Compliance
- Provide oversight and guidance for US foreign tax credit and other informational filings such as Forms 5471.
- Support the international component of corporate audits and financial reporting.
- Responsibly receive, transmit, and handle consumer and customer data per applicable policies and procedures.
- Review and follow data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly supervises one or more employees. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master's degree in Taxation or Law preferred.
- Minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in international tax, with significant leadership experience in corporate and operational tax matters.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent international qualification is required.
- Demonstrated expertise in international and intercompany tax structuring, cross-border tax planning and reporting, and an understanding of permanent establishment risk, transfer pricing, and various international tax compliance forms.
- Must have strong communication skills and the ability to build successful relationships with senior executives and team members.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the work day; and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The associate is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The associate is occasionally required to travel to other sites, including out-of-state, where applicable, for business. The associate must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels. Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 20% of the time and on a domestic basis).
