Under administrative direction from the Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership (FRNP) Program Manager, leads and manages all aspects of the Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership Legal Office. The General Counsel holds full accountability for compliance with applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Demonstrated proficiency includes but is not limited to:
Acts in an advisory capacity regarding legal matters to line and staff organizations within the company, with a particular emphasis in the areas of claims and litigation.
Represents the company in negotiations with third parties and their counsel, government agencies, and other outside parties.
Reviews various contracts, leases, and other corporate legal documents; makes recommendations for modification, revision, and clarification of documents as needed.
Evaluates the impact existing law and court decisions and proposed changes in the law might have on company policies and operating procedures; makes recommendations concerning such laws to senior management for minimal action.
Drafts original legal forms and documents, as required. Renders legal advice to the company on matters of general corporation law; contracts, controversies and lawsuits; existing law and pending legislation; and general legal matters involving the company and its subsidiaries and affiliates in their operations domestically and abroad.
Participates and assists, as required, in negotiations with corporate clients and their counsel in connection with contracts for services of the company and its subsidiaries. Prepares, reviews and approves corporate contracts, commitments, and undertakings involving contractual obligations of the company.
Administers and monitors the handling of claims and lawsuits involving the company. Renders advice relative to the strategies to be followed in favorably resolving pending and potential controversies and disputes with clients of the company and its subsidiaries. Participates in the selection of specialized outside counsel needed to legally assist the company in their operations.
Renders advice and assistance and provides guidelines to management of the company in compliance with law and regulations. Generally assists the company and its subsidiaries at all levels in the identification and minimization of risks and reducing legal exposure in relation to existing and future operations of the company. Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS law degree from an ABA accredited law school and 15 years of related experience. Typical experience ranges from 15 - 20 years. Also requires a broad and thorough knowledge of legal requirements established by statutes, legal decisions of Federal and State courts especially those FOUR RIVERS NUCLEAR PARTNERSHIP Must be licensed to practice law in a state of the United States. Strong interpersonal and communications skills Attention to detail Strong/master PC skills including Microsoft software DOE "L" or "Q" clearance or ability to obtain a DOE "L" or "Q" clearance
Working Conditions
Work in an office at a normal environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities or industrial field environments). May also work at off-project sites representing the organization at various types of locations throughout the community for business purposes. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed. Ability to perform sedentary to light work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (any exertion of force/lifting greater than 45 pounds requires usage of a two person "buddy system"), non-repetitive, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching. Ability to perform primary office duties including heavy computer usage. In some cases radiological training may be required.
