Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will handle daily accounting responsibilities, accounts receivable, AR aging, overdue account collection, invoice generation, and provide support for various accounting functions.
The Accounting Manager will ensure that ASAE has the processes, procedures, and systems in place to support effective internal controls, program implementation, conduct flawless audits, and provide timely and accurate financial reporting. The Accounting Manager will work closely with program leaders and their staff to ensure compliance with accounting procedures and to explore how the accounting function can better support program operations.
Essential Functions

Manages the day-to-day and overall finance and accounting process including journal entries, month-end close, general ledger, bank and balance sheet account reconciliations, and payroll processing activities of the outside vendor. In collaboration with the Controller, prepares and produces accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and analyses for executive and board-level reviews. Generates forecast reports through financial reporting software (Solver). Responsible for all accounts, ledgers, and systems. Perform all revenue accounting processes, including, but not limited to revenue recognition, including accrued revenue and deferred revenue. Investigate and resolve all accounts receivables issues, including collections. Ensure that strong GAAP-compliant internal controls and safeguards for expenditures are maintained and identify and implement enhancements as needed. Provide as-needed support for accounts payable, payroll, and other accounting functions. Identify and implement efficiencies and leveraging of technology to enhance controls and information reporting. Support three annual audits for: ASAE and the Foundation; ABSI and AIC; and for the ASAE 401(k) plan. Assist the Controller in generating schedules and supplying back up materials for IRS Form 990 for the ASAE and its affiliates. Manage and file forms 1099 and 1096 to IRS in collaboration with AP Manager. Communicate effectively and with a service-oriented approach with ASAE staff as needed to resolve issues or follow up on accounting and finance-related questions and issues. Cross-train other accounting staff in key roles so that they can serve as backup. Build and maintain relationships with vendors and colleagues. Improve and update accounting processes and procedures. Perform special projects as needed. Implements consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all entities. Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least five years of experience in a similar role; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Deep understanding of accounting principles, including accrued revenue, deferred revenue, accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, leases, capital expenditures and depreciation. Experience using Sage Intact. Advanced skills with MS Excel, Word, and other Office suite products.
Preferred Education and Experience
Previous role as Accounting Manager is strongly preferred. Experience in managing a multi-entity operation with project level accounting and intercompany transactions. Non-profit organizations and public accounting experience a plus. Experience using modern accounting software systems such as Solver, Bill.com, Concur and Expensify.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating with all levels within an organization. Ability to collaborate effectively in a hybrid environment where meetings may be conducted using applications such as Zoom or Teams. Ability to work collaboratively with outsourced accounting resources during heavy load periods. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to use multiple computer screens, keyboards and related devices, as well as using other office equipment such as printers or meeting room audio-video presentation equipment.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
