Job Summary:
This is a remote position but you must reside in Northern California.
The responsibility of the Cancer Registry Analyst is to provide regional cancer registry representation to the facility medical staff Cancer Committee and support all analytic and reporting tasks necessary for a facility to pass the cancer registry components of accreditation. Cancer registry work is largely pre-defined by State regulation, National (SEER) regulation, and CoC accreditation standards. Duties would be directed by both the KPNCCR Regional Cancer Registry Manager and regulatory requirements. This job requires occasional travel to the accredited facility.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assists in the identification of key healthcare redesign business issues, the design of analytic approaches, and implementation of new business models seeking operational efficiency in the analysis of cancer data. Conducts research on cancer-related quality control outcomes improvement issues. Provides oversight and direction to analysts and assigned components of project work.
- Evaluates and distills analyses conducted by other departments, outside consultants, and/or programmers. Assists in developing and utilizing data gathering tools, such as surveys/questionnaires, work sampling, and database linkages to ensure that appropriate quantitative and qualitative data is gathered for the analysis. Extracts data for analysis and interpretation. Conducts quantitative and qualitative analyses on a broad array of issues across disciplines, projects and functional areas related specific to cancer.
- Structures and executes analysis independently. Prepares preliminary interpretations, or statistical summaries/analyses for project teams, clients, department management, the facility cancer program, and the medical staff-based Cancer Committee. Recommends suggested action steps based on the analytic results, and reports to management.
- Prepares reports synthesizing analytical results, highlighting implications of findings. Follows through on any further actions based on the results using sound business judgment. Assists in the development of project proposals, recommendations, implementation plans, communication packages, performance measurement tools, and training materials related to the cancer program.
- Contributes to practice development and department administration including, recruiting, debriefing on training, and developing thought pieces on topics like change management. May provide input to performance reviews of others in department.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of analytical and/or consulting experience in a setting wherein data submission to maintain a statewide or national cancer registry was performed. An Associates Degree or Certificate of Achievement from an NCRA-approved Cancer Information Management program may substitute for minimum work experience.
Education
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Tumor Registrar Certificate
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years of work experience in departments involved with the diagnosis and/or treatment of cancer.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience synthesizing and analyzing data and interpreting quantitative/qualitative analysis.
- Minimum one (1) years of experience proposing and implementing quality control enhancements to management.
- Minimum one (1) year of work experience in a Commission on Cancer (CoC) accredited health care facility.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience using cancer registry software such as CNExT for report production and presentation of statistical outcomes to physician liaison(s) and medical staff based cancer committee.
- Successful completion of one or more college level coursework in biology of cancer and/or oncology.
- Associates degree in cancer information management OR bachelors degree in anatomy, biology, physiology, public health, science or chemistry.
Secondary Functions:
- Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) Required
