This Architecture & Engineering Director oversees building and site design, documentation, and implementation for all CVS Health enterprise-wide locations. This position is responsible for management of an annual capital budget of approximately +$20M for +100 external contracted professional consulting across seven disciplines including Architects and Engineers to produce design and construction documents (CDs) in the delivery of approximately +$500M in construction capital spend in conjunction with the Construction Project Management team. This individual will lead an internal team of Senior Architecture Project managers collectively responsible for all project specific architectural and engineering design, drawings, documentation, and specifications (including architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and environmental). The scope of work includes site and building design management that represent a wide range of projects including retail, specialty pharmacy, other healthcare sectors workplace, and supply chain locations, for all proposed new or relocated facilities, remodels, expansions, special projects, and initiatives for +9,000 retail, pharmacy, healthcare, specialty pharmacy, workplace, and supply chain locations. This role is critical to realizing the enterprise growth strategy for retail and the advancement of health services that provide meaningful spaces and journeys that are intuitively connected.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Lead internal Architecture & Engineering field team, consisting of architects, designers, engineers, and support staff who oversee the production of technical architectural & engineering concept design, schematic design, design development, and construction documents that represent the project scope of work, deliverables, all while maintaining schedule and construction budget.
- Provide guidance, direction, performance reviews and ongoing feedback to ensure team development.
- Ensure team effectively manages projects within established soft cost budgets.
- Oversee project specific training, management, and assignment of external Architectural, MEP Engineering and Civil engineering consultants across the country.
- Develop strategies for resources, workloads, and assignments of the team.
- Ensure CVS brand consistency and project delivery through leadership, influence, and partnership with Business Sponsors, Real Estate, Developers, Construction Project Managers, Program Managers, Legal, Store Layout, and Branding/Marketing.
- Provide guidance on planning and permitting approach to ensure required design drawings, documents, and 3D renderings, are completed to identify opportunities and resolving concerns to gain approval of projects from municipalities, planning boards and design review boards.
- Influence continual Value Engineering and cost savings exercises and CVS Health sustainability goals.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years’ experience in Design, Architecture, Engineering, and associated processes.
- 8+ years’ experience in a variety of construction types and a good understanding of construction documents, specifications, materials, and processes are required.
- 8+ years’ experience in reading and preparing Architectural & Engineering technical drawings and documentation of project design and construction document phases, which includes quality control, formatting, proofreading, standardizing, and producing/reviewing various submittals.
- 5+ years’ experience managing and leading teams and external consultants.
- Willing to travel 25%
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, design, and problem-solving skills as well as appreciation and sensitivity to architectural design intent and constructability.
- Possess strong presentation skills with the ability to influence others, comfortable presenting at City Design Review boards, Planning commissions to represent CVS Health and the brand.
- Have a positive attitude with proven proficiency working collaboratively within a team setting.
- Have a strong work ethic and the ability to work efficiently and with accuracy while taking responsibility for own work and the work of their team.
- Be a self-motivated individual capable of assuming increasing responsibility for both current and future projects.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet fast paced project demands & deadlines.
- Experience ins systems and software including AutoCAD and BIM (Revit), Excel, Word, Photoshop and PowerPoint.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent (HS Diploma and 4 years of experience) required.
- Master’s/Advanced Degree in Architecture from a professional designation/accredited College or University preferred.
- Professional License to Practice Architecture is preferred but not required.
- LEED Green Certification or other sustainability certifications is preferred but not required.
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is: $100,000.00 - $231,500.00. This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
