Location: New York, NY. This position will work a hybrid model (remote and office). Must reside within 50 miles/1-hour commute from an Elevance Health location.
The Director Underwriting is responsible for managing a group of underwriters overseeing activities related to New Business and/or client Renewals for a given state(s), a subset of a state(s) or a given line of business.
How you will make an impact:
- Ensure end to end execution of rating targets and key performance indicators for assigned team, state(s) and/or line of business.
- Monitor emerging results and competitive tactics to ensure enterprise objectives are achieved.
- Work with peers across states and regions to ensure consistent New Business and Renewal processes and best practices.
- Coordinate with the Segment team, Local Sales teams, Finance/Actuarial, State Plan Presidents and Regional Presidents.
- Participate in strategic planning and management decisions.
- Manage daily workflow within a unit and ensure timely release of work.
- Manage a larger group of professional underwriters.
- Develop and manage their team’s budget.
- Hire, train, coach, counsel and evaluate performance of direct reports.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires a BA/BS in a related field; 9 years of related experience including prior management experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:
Knowledge of the New York regulatory environment.
Knowledge of local market.
For candidates working in person or remotely in the below location(s), the salary* range for this specific position is $167,328.00 to $250,992.00.

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Unless specified as primarily virtual by the hiring manager, associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week.
