Position Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst implements CoRE’s finance functions including financial planning, reporting, and compliance. Responsibilities include developing resources and providing advice, training, and guidance on processes to enable all units and contracted resources to consistently apply financial policy and process. The Senior Financial Analyst integrates unit finances to an organization level for presentation to senior leaders, which provides valuable insights and contribute to ensuring CoRE operates efficiently and effectively within legislated and industry standards. The Senior Financial Analyst also leads ad hoc projects and initiatives, drawing on project coordination and leadership acumen. The Senior Financial Analyst will be expected to provide coverage for the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate services which will be a great opportunity for learning and growth.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

· Undergraduate degree in related field such as business, accounting, finance.

· Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation

· Minimum of 10 years of experience providing financial management, accounting and reporting services.

· Experience providing financial services within the Government of Alberta public service or is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards and government policies, guidelines and directives related to accounting and financial management and reporting, including GAAP and Public Sector Accounting Standards

· Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices for budgeting, controllership, audit management, financial planning and accounting principles.

· Knowledge of and ability to interpret the Financial Administration Act, Government Accountability Act and related Government of Alberta directives, policies and processes.

· Working knowledge of procurement and contracting best practices.

· Interpersonal and relationship management skills to foster cooperative and collaborative working relationships with all CoRE units and stakeholders on financial topics.

· Strong analytical skills to support identification of issues, and development and implementation of solutions to financial opportunities and challenges.

· Strong communication skills and comfort in the preparation and delivery of presentations that effectively communicate financial information.

· Proficiency in financial management software and tools (e.g., ERP systems, Excel, PowerPoint).

· Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and knowledge of project management and asset management applications.

· Keen attention to detail and accuracy of financial data.
