Job Description

The Contractor PA/NP HCPs shall provide physical examinations and medical treatment as required by the Chief of the Department to which they are assigned. The HCP may be responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in addition, provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur. Providers shall see up to 20 outpatients per day each day they are scheduled to work in clinic.
Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient's condition. Maintain outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures.
The PA/NP HCP shall complete each outpatient encounter in AHLTA at the end of each day or within 72 hours.
The PA/NP HCP shall complete each inpatient encounter in the inpatient records in accordance with Army regulations and MTF policies.
The PA/NP HCP shall perform a general physical examination. Record the findings in proper format and determine medical qualification for various purposes in accordance Army regulations and MTF policies.
The PA/NP HCP shall refer to appropriate specialty clinic only when required for evaluation and/or treatment.
The PA/NP HCP shall provide prescription renewal and telephonic consultative services as needed.
The PA/NP HCP shall periodically provide episodic care to patients. Evaluates and treats patients with multiple complicated problems.
The PA/NP HCP shall, in the outpatient primary care setting, provide the following:
The PA/NP HCP shall perform a wide range of medical duties covering primary care, general internal medicine, pediatrics, newborn care, and gynecology within the scope of their privileges. Many patients have multiple interacting and acute chronic medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, arthritis and cancer.
The PA/NP HCP shall examine patients, orders and evaluates the full range of radiology and laboratory tests, makes diagnosis and prescribes appropriate treatment to include drugs, inoculations, nursing and dietary care.
The PA/NP HCP shall periodically provide episodic care to patients. Evaluates and treats patients with multiple complicated problems.
The PA/NP HCP shall plan and initiate proper treatment within the PA/NP HCPs defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility.
The PA/NP HCP shall identify and report those situations and individual cases, which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures. The PA/NP HCP shall clearly communicate to other healthcare personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.
The PA/NP HCP shall stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.
The PA/NP HCP shall determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support in conjunction with physician care.
The PA/NP HCP shall write consults referring patients to specialty clinics. In accordance with scope of practice, administers treatment and therapy in those cases which are minor and simple to the degree that ambulatory, short term treatment is sufficient. Issues temporary profiles according to hospital policy.
The PA/NP HCP shall become familiar with the MTF formulary. Independently prescribes medications from approved formulary. Administers intra-muscular medication, as required. Contract physician extenders authorized to prescribe pharmaceuticals shall do so according to the availability of drugs listed therein. The pharmacy services will provide instructions to all prescribing practitioners regarding substitutions of generic drugs for prescribed drugs. The contract physician extender shall follow the procedures of the MTF when prescribing drugs.
The PA/NP HCP shall rotate through MTF primary care medical clinics for clinical care as required.
The PA/NP HCP shall provide follow-up care as required.
PA/NP HCPs shall refer to On-call physicians for admission.
The PA/NP HCP may be required to assist with SRP at the MTF or nearby Medical Clinics located on the same installation. If so directed, the following tasks apply.
Assists the SRP by screening up to 100 individuals per day. These individuals include deploying, re-deploying or demobilizing Soldiers and civilians mobilizing with military units.
Mobilization/Deployment: Reviews past medical records and Pre-Deployment Health Assessment (DD 2795). Identifies medical issues, which potentially affect deployability and retention.
Post Deployment/Redeployment/Release from Active Duty: Reviews medical records and Post Deployment Health Assessment (DD 2796). This includes mental health, medical injuries, illness or exposure occurring during deployment.

Qualifications

Education. Be a graduate of a Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission for the Physician Assistant or previously recognized accrediting body and acceptable to the Department of the Army.

Licensure. Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Certification/Registration. Shall have and maintain a current certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). The PA must continuously maintain NCCPA certification. Shall have and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted DEA certificate. Shall possess a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) number as required by state agencies where the provider is licensed.

Experience. Shall have a minimum of one year of experience within the last three years working as a Physician Assistant.
