Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Human Resources Consultant. This is a full-service HR position in a high-energy, fast-paced, public service environment. The selected candidate will act as a consultative business partner and change agent supporting all organizational levels of their assigned customer unit(s). Specific responsibilities and duties will include but are not limited to:
- Classification and Compensation: Provide subject matter expertise and consultation to managers and supervisors to ensure appropriate classification of positions.
- Employee Relations: Provide consultant services on workplace civility, grievance procedures, and performance management.
- Performance Management: Advise managers on performance management principles and track status of plans and evaluations.
- Policy and Procedure: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency laws and regulations.
- Talent Acquisition: Support the Talent Acquisition Program by performing recruiting operational duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to analyze data and advise managers in HR issue resolution.
- Knowledge of job analysis, recruiting, and interviewing techniques.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Knowledge of employee relations and complaint investigation.
- Knowledge of federal and state HR regulations.
- Strong computer skills including MS software and HRIS systems.
- Ability to develop strategies to improve customer services.
- Knowledge of HR management principles and practices.
Additional Considerations
- Training, experience, or education in Human Resources or related field desired.
- PHR, SPHR, or CCP certification preferred.
- Experience in a matrix-reporting environment.
- Prior HR experience with the Commonwealth of Virginia is a plus.
