Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Human Resources Consultant. This is a full-service HR position in a high-energy, fast-paced, public service environment. The selected candidate will act as a consultative business partner and change agent supporting all organizational levels of their assigned customer unit(s). Specific responsibilities and duties will include but are not limited to:

Classification and Compensation: Provide subject matter expertise and consultation to managers and supervisors to ensure appropriate classification of positions.
Employee Relations: Provide consultant services on workplace civility, grievance procedures, and performance management.
Performance Management: Advise managers on performance management principles and track status of plans and evaluations.
Policy and Procedure: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency laws and regulations.
Talent Acquisition: Support the Talent Acquisition Program by performing recruiting operational duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to analyze data and advise managers in HR issue resolution.
Knowledge of job analysis, recruiting, and interviewing techniques.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Knowledge of employee relations and complaint investigation.
Knowledge of federal and state HR regulations.
Strong computer skills including MS software and HRIS systems.
Ability to develop strategies to improve customer services.
Knowledge of HR management principles and practices.

Additional Considerations

Training, experience, or education in Human Resources or related field desired.
PHR, SPHR, or CCP certification preferred.
Experience in a matrix-reporting environment.
Prior HR experience with the Commonwealth of Virginia is a plus.
