Organization: Float Pool Administration
Job Summary:
PRN = 4 shifts per 6 weeks. We care for adult patients across 37 Vanderbilt Adult Hospital units who are being treated for various medical conditions (Med Surg, Stepdown, and ICU).
*1 year of previous acute care experience is highly preferred. If you don’t have prior acute care experience, we recommend applying to a unit-based position until your skills become highly proficient. If you don't have healthcare experience, we recommend you apply for a Care Partner Trainee position. The Trainee position doesn't require experience and provides three weeks of paid training from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
One of the perks of working in the Float Pool is that you’ll never be bored! Staff develop a broad skill set by experiencing a diverse and ever-changing patient population. You will assist with delivering patient care and maintaining unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The environment with our team is collaborative, supportive, and highly communicative.
In this role, you will be able to administer ADLs, vitals, lab draws, acute checks, place foleys, and straight caths. Coming soon will be wound care.
This is a great position for nursing students. However, our orientation is structured and rigorous. Please ensure you can attend on week 1 Mon, Thurs, and Fri business hours. After this, you'll cross-train for nine shifts in your first 30 days.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
- Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
- Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
- Clinical Competencies (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, medication administration and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
- Care Partner Patient Documentation (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience or training working with clinical applications for patient documentation.
- Environment of Care (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience or training working with set up and maintenance of patient exam rooms, supplies and equipment.
- Planning & Organizing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities.
Core Accountabilities:
- Organizational Impact: Performs tasks that are typically routine that may impact team's performance with occasional guidance.
- Problem Solving/ Complexity of work: Utilizes some discretion and research to solve routine problems.
