oncology services at
Duke Raleigh Campus, Duke Women's Cancer Care Raleigh, and Duke Cancer Center Cary. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of oncology nursing practice, infusion therapy, and patient-centered care. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of patients undergoing cancer treatment by delivering expert clinical care and support. The Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist will address diverse oncology needs across inpatient and outpatient services at Duke Cancer Institute of Wake County. Responsibilities include policy and program development, research, quality improvement, staff development, and providing support for abstracts/publications. Collaboration with other clinical nurse specialists and health system resources is essential. Expect local travel to various Duke Cancer Institute sites.
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
Locations: This position will be split between inpatient and outpatient oncology services (approximately 25% inpatient / 75% outpatient)
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level: - Educate patients and their families about treatment options, side effects, and self-care techniques to promote optimal outcomes and adherence to therapy.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for nursing staff, providing guidance on best practices, new developments in oncology care, and infusion techniques.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and effective communication throughout the patient's treatment journey.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research projects, and staff development activities to enhance the delivery of oncology infusion services.
- Coordinate with the nursing staff to identify patient care problems, to implement approaches to these problems and to evaluate the effectiveness of the approaches.
- Perform clinical evaluations and make clinical judgments based on a synthesis of concepts, principles, models and theories to solve complex problems.
- Participate in departmental and hospital committees and meetings to facilitate improvement of patient care and development of goals, philosophies, and objectives for a specialized patient population.
- Maintain liaison with faculty members of nursing schools to arrange and facilitate clinical experience for nursing students; communicate with faculty members concerning students' needs and progress.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of an educational program designed to convey specialized knowledge and skills to nursing personnel.
- Coordinate plans for the professional development of the nursing staff assigned to a specialty unit area and serve as a practitioner of specialized patient care. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications at this Level. Education: MSN required
Experience: 3 years of nursing experience
Oncology experience is preferred.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical team members.
Proficiency in utilizing electronic health record systems and other healthcare technology.
Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of oncology nursing.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
