Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Surgical Technologist - Ambulatory Surgery Center. In this role, the successful candidate will:
- Under the direction of the RN, plan the delivery of safe therapeutic age-specific care.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to promote wellness and optimize patient outcomes.
- Provide the surgical team with the necessary instruments, sutures, special equipment, and materials needed to perform surgery while maintaining strict aseptic technique.
- Assist in circulating, obtaining instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary while the surgical procedure is in progress.
- Participate in unit/departmental/institutional performance improvement activities that impact patient and service outcomes.
Job Responsibilities:
- Comply with regulatory and institutional policies governing safety standards, infection control, handling of sharps, and patient belongings. Ensure appropriate emergency equipment is present and operational.
- Label all medications/solutions on the field with name, dosage, and initials, and perform a read back with RN/CST.
- Be cognizant of HEICS (Hospital Emergency Incident Command System) plan and participate in implementing the plan as required.
- Initiate corrective actions when counts are incorrect. Provide equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Observe patient’s clinical status and report findings to the RN. Address patient issues following established communication hierarchy.
- Participate in problem identification and problem-solving in the work environment.
- Review the plan of care during perioperative stay, monitor variances, and modify the plan of care under the direction of the RN.
- Provide direct care for specific patient assignments reflective of current and changing status of the patient.
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, peer review, mentor relationships, and formal/informal education and orientation of new employees as needed.
- Ensure completion of patient care assignments, quality control of equipment daily, and escalate issues as needed.
- Communicate with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
- Document legibly.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have a High School Diploma or equivalent required, 1-2 years of operating room experience preferred. Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program through NBSTSA. Certification exam must be taken and passed within 12 months of completion of the surgical technologist program. Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Course Completion. Strong communication (both written and oral), critical thinking, problem-solving, detail orientation, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Basic computer skills. Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.
Required Licenses: Cert Surgical Technologist, Basic Life Support Cert.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-2 years in a Surgical Technologist role.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $38.00 - $38.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
