The Department of Public Health/Tewksbury State Hospital is currently seeking a motivated EVS Team Leader to work for the Environmental Services Department. The selected candidates will supervise and actively participate in the cleaning and maintenance of the hospital facility and campus support programs, including project work, move requests and setting up patient rooms/offices and other miscellaneous areas.
EVS Team Leaders actively participate in the cleaning of the main healthcare facility and campus support programs. They provide supervision to EVS staff as assigned by EVS Supervisor and/or EVS Director.
Please note: This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week on the Second Shift 3:30PM to 12:00AM.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Supervises and actively participates in the cleaning and maintenance of main healthcare facility and campus support programs including project work, move requests, and setting up patient rooms/offices/other miscellaneous areas.
- Ensure that all work schedules are covered including accurately documenting in Daily Management Log.
- Ensures Daily Round Report is accurately documented, and follow-up is completed in a timely manner.
- Ensures all areas of hospital meet established standards and regulations as outlined by departmental policy/procedures and governing agencies.
- Ensures that all projects are assigned and completed.
- Ensures that all Environmental Services staff, under your directions are performing their various tasks using prescribed OSHA Safety Guidelines and safe work practices.
- Participates in departmental Quality Improvement program as assigned by ES Director and/or ES Supervisor.
- Completes mandatory training required to meet facility policy/procedures, TJC, CMS, State Mandatory training, and other regulatory agencies.
- Ensures that all Environmental Services staff, under your directions are properly trained in Right-to-Know, Personal Protective Equipment, departmental policies/procedures including Infection Control standards.
- Performs on-the-job training, retraining and orientation.
- Participates in EPRS for Environmental Services staff as assigned by ES Supervisor/ES Director.
- Participates in the facility’s disciplinary process conferring with ES Supervisor/ES Director to resolve issues in the first stage.
- Confers with EVS Supervisor/EVS Director concerning work activities to resolve problems and exchange ideas.
- Performs other work-related tasks as assigned and operationally necessary to meet the needs of the facility.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions/directions.
- Skilled in understanding and applying the policies, procedures, rules and regulations governing assigned unit activities.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques and safety procedures of institutional housekeeping including the types and uses of materials and equipment used.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing work objectives.
- Capacity to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and lift/carry heavy objects.
- Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated progressive growth in the field of healthcare cleaning or facility maintenance.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Skilled in exhibiting initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
- Demonstrated language skills that allow for two-way communication, effective patient service, coordination with other members of the patient care team.
- Ability to communicate in sign language interpreting (but does not have to be a licensed interpreter).

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in building custodial or institutional housekeeping work and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
