EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
Master's Degree from an accredited program in Speech Pathology, or PhD from an accredited program in Speech Pathology. - Experience
New graduates are welcome to apply (intern license). - Licenses and Certifications
(SLPL) SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY Licensed to practice Speech Pathology in the state of Texas. Intern license (Clinical Fellowship Year) also accepted upon hire. Active cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire.

JOB DUTIES
- Requires prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients. Lifts supplies/equipment as needed.
- Has general patient care skills. Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic principles, practices good clinical judgement and does not compromise patients or another's safety, while at same time maximizes patient's treatment potential. Passes competency reviews.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to all policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, and corporate compliance. This includes personal demeanor, appearance, and hygiene that are appropriate for the work environment. Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with University Medical Center Policy. Tolerates diversity within the work environment and consistently deals with all customers in a respectful manner.
- Completes speech therapy evaluations. Reviews information from all sources (history, physical, overt and subjective complaints, etc). Utilizes proper testing and measurement procedures based on information gathered in evaluation. Identifies and records problem areas on evaluation. Projects reasonable goals within realistic time frames for each identified problem. Analyzes and designs treatment plans based on patient problems and goals. Determines if planned treatment is effective and progresses patient in a timely fashion. Records patient's progress in a concise, accurate, and timely manner.
- Prepares for patient discharge in an organized and efficient manner, including timely and accurate submission of equipment needs. Displays good knowledge of patient's resources and needs.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently. Works in a team-oriented manner. Fosters teamwork by treating all staff fairly, facilitating two-way communication and having a collaborative attitude. Supports teamwork and cooperation with co-workers in daily activities. Readily volunteers assistance to help co-workers complete tasks. Assists willingly in the coverage of other patients.
- Takes ownership in solving problems effectively, efficiently, and to the satisfaction of the patient.
- Organizes patient treatment time and unscheduled time efficiently.
- Demonstrates basic computer knowledge.
- Demonstrates through verbal and non-verbal communications openness to change or new ideas. Willingly learns and adapts to changes in work environment and new work methods as introduced. Demonstrates flexibility to fluctuating workload and effectively prioritizes assignments. Consistently maintains control of feelings, emotions, and body language.
- Exhibits a positive attitude in support of the hospital and management, including decisions made by administration and/or management. Treats hospital resources and property with respect and in a manner that reflects awareness of financial responsibility.
- Presents constructive feedback regarding system or process failures and participates in resolution in a proactive and positive manner.
- Responds to all reasonable requests in an appropriate and timely manner and communicates in a concise and positive way.
- Assists in on-job training and education of Therapy Technicians, Students and/or Nursing Staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned. Accepts additional responsibility as appropriate.
