Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an Exciting Potential Opportunity for a Medical Technologist to join the dedicated team supporting the VA Illiana Healthcare System in Danville, Virginia!

Job Requirements:
- Degree: Bachelor's degree
- Education: Graduate from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited medical technology program.
- Certification: Current certification or registration with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT).
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience within the last 5 years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a full range of laboratory procedures - both automated and manual - in areas such as chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, serology, bacteriology, and immunohematology.
- Ensure specimen suitability for analysis, and request new specimens when necessary to maintain accuracy.
- Select, perform, and monitor test procedures, swiftly recognizing and resolving malfunctions to ensure smooth operation.
- Conduct quality control procedures on lab equipment and reagents, maintaining detailed records for quality assurance.
- Calibrate and maintain instruments, ensuring they operate according to standards and making simple repairs when needed.
- Analyze test data in relation to patient history and medications to ensure accuracy, and run additional tests when abnormal results arise.
- Communicate urgent abnormal results directly to physicians, ensuring quick attention to critical findings.
- Input and verify results in the laboratory computer system, ensuring all data is accurately recorded and verified.
- Maintain specialized supplies for the lab area, ensuring proper stock levels.
- Accession and receive samples into the VA laboratory system for both in-house and reference lab testing.
- Perform phlebotomy, including drawing blood cultures and compatibility samples.
