POSITION SUMMARY
The Financial Controller will be responsible for the Company’s budgeting & forecasting (financial and sales demand) processes, which include delivering financial plans and forecasts that reflect the expected business results. This role will be key in the development and reporting of monthly, quarterly and ad hoc reports and analysis for senior management to be used for critical decisions. This role will also manage and coordinate the systems and data reporting needs of the Finance group in coordination with the MIS group. Additionally, it will also provide support in areas of taxation, cashflow management, borrowing base reporting, regulatory reporting and other accounting related matters.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and MD&A in compliance with IFRS.
- Responsible for the preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements, management reporting and analysis.
- Provide support in the preparation of presentations to Board of Directors and Senior Management Team.
- Manage the continued development of Budgeting, and Financial and Sales Demand Forecasting process.
- Develop business cases for key strategic opportunities, including opportunities related to capital investments, business development, and corporate development.
- Build detailed financial models, perform business analysis, and formulate recommendations, to enable data-driven decision-making.
- Seek opportunities for continuing improvements and streamlining reporting and business processes to provide management with more effective and useful information for decision making.
- Support the execution of the annual strategic planning sessions, by performing required research and analysis, including developing a financial model that forecasts the impact of the strategic initiatives on our 5-year financial performance.
- Respond timely to requests for various information from internal and external stakeholders/customers.
- Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses and capital expenditures.
- Support Senior Management Team and Departments heads with in-depth analysis as required.
- Identify opportunities for automation to benefit and improve the efficiency and performance of Tree Island’s Finance group.
- Support and lead, as required, regulatory and compliance reporting.
- Monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variance.
- Manage cash flow requirements of the company including preparation of weekly cash disbursement summary.
- Manage the credit facility including borrowing base reporting as required.
- Assist in the preparation of corporate tax returns and liaising with tax auditors for timely filing of the returns.
- Responsible for analyzing and reporting of new leases and renewal of existing leases.
- Liaise with external auditors.
- Participate in special projects as required.
- Manage one (1) direct report.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- A high performer with ability to multi-task and work to deadlines.
- Accounting designation with financial reporting experience.
- Experience with manufacturing or similar ERP system.
- Intermediate to advanced analytical and financial modeling skills using Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- High standards of accuracy and precision, and organization skills.
